I just want to rant tonight...
It's finals week. And that means On Friday Afternoon, I'll have to leave a place I consider home. A nice, progressive city called Stevens Point, filled with great people, and go back to live with my parents for three and ha half months. Now, I love my parents, they're really great and supportive, and the food's a whole hell of a lot better than what they have to offer here at UWSP, and there's two cats and four new kittens to give attention to, but it means having to go back to the boonies in Marineete County. Yes, it means I have to go back to the middle of ass-backwards nowhere, where the fields are braod, and the minds are narrow. Back to a place where people have been thouroghly brianwashed by thier churches, right-wing talk radio, and the NRA into thinking that all liberals are "oit to take all of your guns away," "nasty evil scum who want nothing better than to take away all of your hard-earned money and give it all to lazy welfare parasites who refuse to work" and who want to "force all of our children to become athiest homosexual agents of Satan." This is the kind of pure, utter bullshit that I'm going to have to put up with for three and a half months. True, Marinette County has some pockets of blue, a couple of towns with a strong union prescence, and a nieghboring district in Michigan's U.P. with a strong democratic prescence help make some places somewhat bearable to be in, but still, where I'm going to be, no dice. It's stuck in the middle of a solid red bastion of * worship.

To make things even more unbearable is that there's nothing to do. To do most anything, I gotta drive somewhere. There's no bus service like here in Stevens Point. And with gas prices these days things'll get even more boring, as it't hard to afford going anywhere. There's no roleplaying game groups that I can find the area, which will make the whole three and a half months even more of an ordeal.

Oy, A lot of students are happy that they're going back, but not me.

1. I know how you feel.
I don't know which is worse: the month left of school or my Freeperville hometown. x(

4. No Choice.
I can't find a job here in Point, and summer housing's out of my reach.

5. Good rant.
Everybody should take the pledge to send this guy books and music and postcards.

Then two would do it and it would be a thrilling experience for him to pick up his mail.

Sorry, JonathanChance. That's how my summers home from college were, too.

6. Thanks...
There are some lovely waterfalls in Marinette County. Perhaps if I get a full tank of gas, I'll pack a lunch and my camera and shoot some footage of some of them. I can make a nice day trip of it.

7. I know a place of unearthly beauty in the UP, you could drive there
Someday you might want to go to Kitchitikipi in Munising. Here's a picture of the very clear, very deep, copper-green stream:

The nature in the North Woods would about make up for the redness--if it didn't snow, and if there were some better restaurants. And if it were never winter. Or fall.

I hear your "oy."

(Visit Seattle sometime?)

9. How much is it? A save-in-a-few-months amount, or more?
Probably less than flying...there's also always Greyhound, which is actually a really fun way to see things and meet people and feel very Kerouac-esque.

12. I wish.
Nothing I would be interested in is available, and besides, It's a little too late to make the necessary arrangements.

13. I just thought of something....
I may have some money coming this summer. Perhaps a week or so through this fine state of mine would be just the ticket.
