2. I've had a shit day.
Mildly, comparatively, but still shitty.

Broke it off with someone I really liked, got a rejection from a job that had been verbally offered to me, and now I can't sleep.

I did go to a pretty good house party, though... which made me feel simultaneously really young and really old. haha!!!

3. I'm sorry.

I wouldn't worry about the job, though. I've had job problems for awhile now, but I'm moving soon, so it'll be better, just like it will for you.

4. Yeah, I just moved
Finally got out of East Texas, thanks be to God.

But my job offer fell through, I'm in massive student and comparatively bad credit card debt, and jobs are hard to come by at the moment. I gotta find something within a month or I'm toast. Out on the street.

So... what are YOU up to???

Thanks for the hugs.

5. Where in East Texas did you live?
I used to live in Central Texas.

I have some credit card debt, too, but nothing too bad. I've paid off about half of it so far.

In a month and a half, I'll be out of Los Angeles, and I'll be in NYC in a few months to live permanently. Currently, my job sucks, and I even posted about it yesterday, but it'll be done with soon, so that's good. I can't wait till I get to NYC, though.

8. Moi?
Nothing, at the moment. I have an MA in Art History, had a variety of jobs... mostly I'm looking for something editorial/communications. It's all just so political. I can't get anywhere with the few decent openings that come up. I wish I'd known how much life sucked back when I was 17. I'd have bought a house back then instead of wasting $45,000 going to college. I'd be rich now.

13. Where'd you get your MA?
Just wondering... I'm an artist. Yeah. I skipped grad school because i couldn't reconcile the loss of that much money and i was over institutions. I went to residencies instead. you still using your art history?

22. yeah
I wanted to get a PhD in British Lit., and decided to study modernism because my undergrad work was in late 19thC. But I completely burned out on all the BS. Academia is not really viable as a profession anymore, either... not for newcomers. Too unstable, especially considering the financial outlay to get a PhD. Etc.

25. what's crazy is the volume of grad school students still being pumped out
little art puppy dogs all thinking they will have a job.

what they will have is bills. and on my end, the galleries just sit at the the gates of the school and wait to see what immature "fresh newcomer" they can exploit. It's Art Inc. now... just like any corporation out there.

I am going to drop out, 1960s style, and become a professional revolutionary/dissident. I hate to quote Kinky Friedman, but, seriously, why the hell not?

31. well, funny, but its pretty much what i do now...
i'm kinda like the guy in office space now. i just decided i don't really want to work anymore for anyone. and so far, its working. actually, technically i never have been employed by anyone. i was always contracted. free agent style. I've done some weird shit. As an artist, you get used to it. it's weird, really weird... but as far as lame cliches go... im ALMOST starting to believe you can just do what you really want....

I've lived next to it forever. i try to explain to people in other places what hellA is like. They think I'm lying.

The worst part of LA: Flying back into LAX over the rest of LA. Sprawling concrete suburbia. White orange sky. dirty ocean. just crap.

32. HA.
congrats on being the first person to ever respond that way to anyone saying they live in Oside.

Honestly, i love it. I'm actually in the very early stages of working with a major producer to do eposodic 5 minute docs on this place though. For ipods and the like. As the last real beach town left in california. It's a crazy place Oside, reminiscent of the cantina scene in star wars.

7. Congrats!
I would think NYC would be far superior to LaLaLand, except for the weather. Being a Southern girl myself, I couldn't really be handling that.

I lived in North East Texas. It sucks. Very long story. Told on here before.

Yeah, I am not too bothered by the debt, really. I figure I could hit tomorrow by a bus, right? I gotta live my life. I had to incur a bunch of credit card debt because my partner left me about a year ago and I didn't get shit blah blah blah... had to start all over. I would rather have the debt than him, though!!!

I can't believe it's 4:30. I got home at 2am. Was tired, now WIIIIDE awake.

10. I went to college in Sherman.
And NYC is way better than L.A. IMHO -- the weather's great, too, because I LOVE cold weather. I can't stand this 24/7 California sun out here.

I lived in the South most of my life, but I was born in Brooklyn, so it's like I'm returning home, in a way.

:D

I've frequently expressed an interest in getting a tatoo. Usually when I'm drunk. When I sober up I get more conservative about the body ink. Good thing I never walked into a tatoo parlor with a few beers in me. ;)
