Maybe I really do hate myself.
Someone hit on me at the bar tonight (after the DU gathering) and I became afraid.

Afraid.

Well, I'm always afraid, but this time I could sense the self-awareness in real-time.

Looking for Mr. Goodbar at an early age. Believe me, the book is much more scary than the movie!

4. Was is a bad vibe or a very specific fear?
What I guess I mean is *why* were you afraid? Were you afraid of the other person, what might happen, messing up a potential good thing, or what?

16. Both.
Don't forget, there wre incidents in childhood that made me end up... conflicted.

Some people wonder why I don't speak much. It's not just because I can't think well on my feet (and Lord knows people take advantage of that too). It's because I fear, regardless of what I say, the repercussions will be bad.

I observe. And don't get involved. I've tried and have cried, and I'm too scared thanks to my past.

I think, in this instance, they were joking. And I say I'm used to that too.

17. It's hard not to care about what other people think
when they speak negatively of you. I was told for a long time that I care too much about what other people think. I think that part of being a compassionate person is considering what others have to say. But you can't let someone abuse you and you can't dwell on negativity. It will only make you depressed.

Better luck next time, man. Be prepared. When someone comes on to you have a line ready to use. It will probably get easier when you start talking.

Now I'm going to take some of my own advice and go see about that girl at the sub shop. I think she likes me. :)

5. More likely is it was anxiety & fear of bieng judged unworthy in a
social context.

Happens to us all.

As for the self awareness, a lot of emotion stems from the mind becoming aware of the state of the body, in this case the (amygdala I think) upon specific input knew that it was a stressful sitaution, reacting by preparing a fight or flight response, and you consciously becoming aware of that is what the feeling was.

You don't hate yourself, merely fear that other's judgements will be unfavourable. I think.

6. Hating yourself is a waste of time.
I spent almost 10 years not liking the way that I looked because I based my self value on what others thought about me.I felt that I was ugly because no one else told me so.Well one day I stopped doing that and started believing that I was beautiful and even though people tell me that they think I am pretty,I take it as compliments even though I don't need a second opinion - because I know that I look good :);)

15. A recurring pattern that permeates my entire existence...
or life, as you will...

It's easy for some people to do, given the right stimuli during one's childhood development.
