OSX: par and bin files = Help!
I am a proud new owner of a MacBook Pro! I'm loving it so far (am a FreeBSD geek, so am halfway there!) but my mind is trying to relearn computing the Mac way. Since I've only had the machine a few hours - I've a long way to go.

Anyway - I have downloaded an app that contains par and bin files - all jumbled together. I am familiar with par/rar/bin/cue/iso/etc files in windows, and use WinRar often. I have Stuffit Deluxe 10 on the MacBook.

I need to combine/unpack this group of files so that I can install the program - but I have no freaking idea what I'm doing. I've tried everything that seems logical to me - and no dice. Also driving me NUTS is not knowing how to select more than one of anything in OSX. In Windows I do the typical Ctrl+click to select one or more things individually, or click+shift+click to select a range. Can't find anything of the sort on the Mac. This probably isn't anything to do with my larger issue of not being able to figure out the par/bin files - but it's bugging the crap out of me.

Any suggestions?

1. Stuffit Expander is the Mac expanding program
Edited on Sat May-13-06 01:57 AM by Awsi Dooger
Open that application. It should appear in the Dock below. Then you can drop the file(s) on the icon in the Dock. It should begin to expand. Or choose File in the Menu Bar at above left, and then select Expand. You have to find the file you want to expand. You might need the Stuffit Engine installed before Stuffit works. That is a common error message. You should also drop down to the preferences of Stuffit Expander from the Menu Bar, and check the Internet preferences. There will be two rows of items. Make sure MacBinary or .bin is checked. I'm not sure PAR will be there. It's not a common Mac file. This site has plenty of Mac compression applications, including descriptions: http://www.pure-mac.com/compen.html
