Question about storing water and germ stuff
I've been storing water for the Big One (earthquake country, y'know) in plastic milk and juice bottles. I wash these with soap and hot water first, then add filtered water. But I've been wondering if I should do any of the following to make sure no little diseasey guys grow in it:

•Add a couple drops of iodine

•Boil the water first

•Seal the caps with wax or something

•Anything else

Thanks for your help. :hi:

2. You should seal it.

Add a few drops of echinacea tincture first before sealing. Wax will work.

3. You should use
bottles with caps that screw... like 2 liter soda bottles. And change the stored water every 6 months.

4. Crap
Every six months?

The Big One could come in six days — hell, it could come in six seconds — or 26 years. If the latter, I doubt I'd remember to change the water.

I think I'll just buy several gallons of the bottled stuff. :eyes:

Thanks for digging that up, though.

6. When I lived out there
I kept bottled water...the kind that was sealed and I bought at Albertsons or Alpha Beta or whatever. And I replaced it every year...sooner if I thought about it (and I usually thought about it when we had those 'moderate' ones that wake you up at 3 a.m.).

Don't forget stuff like cat chow and a can opener. Paper towels.

And toilet paper.

7. I'm always stocked on that stuff
And I buy Lucy's food in 25-pound bags. (She doesn't like canned stuff much.)

But, yeah — an old-fashioned can opener is a really good idea.
