DU Moms: Do you know what you're getting for Mother's Day?
I'm getting a great gift -- MrSG is staying at his parent's house ALL WEEKEND, so I get the house to myself (well, except for the "kids" -- the dog and the three cats). My daughter is coming over for awhile on Saturday, and we'll probably go window shopping at several plant nurseries, but otherwise, I'll be alone.

I actually asked MrSG to go away for a weekend. He's been sick for quite some time (though he's getting better), and it's been stressful for both of us. Plus I've been under stress from some other things, which are also getting better. So luxuriating in being alone is exactly what I wanted.

So, how 'bout the rest of you Mom's?

1. Not really.
I know that my daughter decorated a frame and made a card and painted a t-shirt in Girl Scouts, but I'm not supposed to know that. She made another gift in kindergarten class. My son brought home a mysterious wrapped package from preschool today.

My husband made a vague reference to a mysterious something, and I just told him not to go overboard.

3. That sounds wonderful
I love to have alone time and it sounds fun to spend some time with your daughter.

I don't have any idea what to expect. My oldest and my youngest are sporadic about remembering it but my middle daughter ALWAYS sends me something nice. It will be a surprise, whatever it is.

4. I'm so looking forwards to being alone most of the weekend,
but also to spending time with my daughter. A few weeks ago, we went to dinner together, and bookstore browsing, and we talked non-stop for over three hours!

I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!

6. How old is your daughter?
My oldest daughter is 25 and we have a bit of a stormy relationship (she's a Republican  ) but my younger daughter is 24 and she's one of my best friends. I think it's so cool when you can be both a mom and a friend to your daughter. It makes it such a special bond.

Happy Mother's Day to you, too! :hi:

7. My daughter is 26
She's a flaming liberal like her mom (her dad, my ex, is a Republican......). She's also a member of DU, though she doesn't post all that much (her DU name is SeattleTurtle).

5. Probably something made by my child.
The teachers are great about doing that with the kids--and it is always just the coolest thing.

Hubby, on the other hand, it is a tough one to predict. Could be a card, could be jewelry, could be nothing at all other than, "Happy Mother's Day, Hon" while he makes his decaf coffee...

9. My wife has no idea
Because I haven't decided what I'm buying and/or doing.
I'll have to see if there are any good exhibits at the Smithsonian she would want to see or if it's nice she would love a picnic somewhere we can take the dog.

11. My mom does. I cleared it with her first.
I sent her a care-package of stuff for the kitchen and I wanted to make sure she'd actually use the stuff.

Olive oil with White Truffle
Olive oil with Lemon
Olive oil with Chili Pepper
Olive oil with Basil
Sun Dried Tomato Powder
Basil packed in Olive Oil
An awesome Eggplant "caviar" spread

The truffle oil and the sun dried tomato powder are the real gift. She's never tasted truffles, and the powder is just an amazing seasoning is sauces and broth. The other stuff is just some extra stuff to play with.

27. Actually, I like to cook.
She has said that she'd cook more like me if she had stuff in the house. So I'm sending her this stuff to play with. Part of the gift is the hand written suggestions I'm sending her on how to use all this stuff.

12. Same thing I always get
a phone call and maybe dinner out with our son who lives here.. we quit making a big deal out of those "days", when Dad never stepped up to the plate when they were little.. I quite doing father's day in a passive-aggressive snit (about 25 years ago) and we decided we liked it without the fuss :)

18. I have no clue.
My family's kinda lame so they'll probably want to take me out to dinner someplace I can't eat. LeftyKid isn't old enough to pick out anything for me yet and his Dad probably won't bother to look for something on his behalf.

I think I'll make myself breakfast and then try to figure out what the hell I'm doing for my own mother.

Or would the balk at eating at a vegan place?

Whatever you do, I hope you have a good one. :hi:

already gave me my gift 'cause she knew I wouldn't want to wait. I've been listening to Neil Young's "Living With War" all day.

25. Fabulous gift!!
I downloaded it, along with Springsteen's Seeger Sessions CD, onto my computer, and listen to both of them quite frequently.

Do you have a favorite song from the CD yet?

29. I'm digging "Roger and Out"
but for pure, pump-me-up-for-a-protest it's gotta be, "Let's Impeach the President"!

I do like the "Impeach" song, and also "Families".

24. I have no idea
I've asked for a few things, but I ask for the same things every year and never get 'em:

1. a whistle (they think I'm kidding. I'm not. When #2 son and girly-poo get into it, short of throwing things at them, NOTHING penetrates).

2. books (they think books are boring)

3. one whole day without the kids fighting me and/or each other.

4. a new coffee cup (this one I might get).

We'll see.

I Will get a little pot-thingie from my youngest. You know...those wonderful little clay ones that they make in school. And that'll be my favorite of all.

:D

But this is what I really, really want. I wish I had enough of a backlog of work for the union to trade for them buying it for me.
