Seven baby chicks die during 'senior prank'

PARKER - It was a so-called "senior prank" involving a student from Ponderosa High School.

According to head of security for Ponderosa High School, Larry Borland, a student bought forty-five baby chicks to the high school and dropped them off the second floor balcony in the main office area.

Six of the baby chicks died upon impact and one died hours later. The remaining chicks were taken to an undisclosed location.

Students who witnessed the incident surrounded the chicks in a protective circle, so other students wouldn't accidentally step on them.

This isn't a "prank". Silly, pointless stuff like TPing the cafeteria, or letting those chicks loose in the principal's office -- that's a prank. (As in: makes a big mess, is inconvenient for some people, but nobody was meant to get hurt.)

Somebody with a vicious streak is using graduation fooling as an excuse to do something really nasty. (Reminds me of my last week of Grade 8, when one of my classmates brought her pet kitten to school, since things were so relaxed .... and the school bully grabbed it and hurled it against a cinderblock wall. No reason given.)

p.s. I'm glad the other students tried to help rescue the chicks. My guess is that the kids will remember this for a long, long time.

6. that's sick and something is wrong with that kid

at a certain point it may be stupidity, but the kid had to know that dropping a baby chicks off of a 2 story building would kill them.

the kid needs serious help.

I don't know what makes grown humans act like such vermin, but that is sick.

But this is our society. They'll find a way to blame the chicks for the incident.
