A question re: thank you after an interview...
I just had 5 interviews but I am sending one email to the group (since I don't have last names or email addresses and I'm not asking the HR mgr to forward 5 emails from me).

Anyway, my guess is that it didn't go well (again!) because they didn't have me fill out an application or ask for my references.

They told me that I would hear from them in 2 weeks (they have 4 other applicants). Is there any nice way of saying, thank you, I'm interested in the position but if you have already decided I'm not a good fit could you tell me now instead of making me wait 2 weeks?

3. A lot of jobs don't have applications (and even fewer managers check
references, even though they should), so don't use that as a basis of how you did.

There's not a lot you can do, though, except thank them and move on.

6. Hmmm, I've never heard of that before and that is what I'm
basing my feelings on. Do you think in my thank you I could mention something about providing references - then I could tell if they just don't reference check or if they've disqualified me?

8. I'd offer references, but whether or not they're used is of little value
Not everyone checks references. It really doesn't mean much if they don't. And hiring DOES often take a while.

Think of it this way - you're completely booked at your job. No real spare time for anything. Now, all of a sudden, you have to cram in at least 5 hour-long meetings, and then meetings to discuss those meetings, and then call back another 2 to 3 people for another hour long meeting. Seriously, it's not easy for them to do it in a timely manner either.

11. I totally agree with you and I don't have a problem with them
taking 2 weeks to make the decision (I'm getting kind of used to it) EXCEPT if they've already decided not to hire me - how long can it take to send a quick email???? Then they can move on right away and so can I.

4. You're not likely to get a response.
Hell, I've been on 2nd interviews and not gotten a call one way or another. It's asinine. And then they demand you show loyalty to the firm?

7. It IS a joke isn't it? I guess this human interaction thing only works
one way when you're looking for a job.

5. It would be better to send each individual a personal letter. Get the

mailing addresses, titles, and correct spelling of their names. Individualize each letter. Try to include a comment about something each person asked you or commented on. Talk about why you are a good fit for the position and organization.

Close by thanking them again for meeting with you and you look forward to the next steps in the process. Say to the Hiring Manager that you understand that you will hear from him/her in a couple of weeks, and should you not you will contact them to see where you stand.

Good luck.

9. This is a good approach.
I would not give them a 'tell me now' option because that will likely result in 'no'.

10. I ask everyone I interview with for a business card
That way you have their contact information.

It sucks that no one called you (or even emailed you with a "thank you, but....".

12. Well, I only had the interviews 2 hours ago (it was 5 people in one
day) so I'm not expecting to know for another 2 weeks except that I think if they disqualified me they should tell me right away.

The business card is a good idea.
