Kitten saga at Debi's house

If any of you read my post yesterday you know that I was in search of a dead cat's litter. We had one kitten already in with a stray that we had taken in and her five kittens, but didn't know where the rest of them were.

The person who lives across the road from us said the cat had been living on his property and had a litter of five kittens that were there in the morning. So we knew we were looking for four kitten on our side of the road (based on where the cat was when she was hit by the cars).

We searched our property (as much of it as we could since we have 12 acres) looking in our garage and shed and under trees and in bushes. No luck. We kept going back to the ditch were the mother cat was hit by the cars. Seemed most logical that she would have moved the kittens to the ditch first and then moved them another distance to shelter.

It got too dark and we went in worried if the four kittens would make it through the night. At 5:30 this morning I went back out into the ditch on both sides of the road. Still no luck. After our son went to school I decided to try one last time.

THERE!! right where I had been looking all along (probably walked by the little critters four or five times) Four little kittens huddled together - actually pretty warm and dry if you can believe it.

We took them in and placed them w/the stray mom-cat and she started cleaning them and they nursed and fell asleep.

We made a call to the vet and got some milk replacement (since one cat cannot feed ten kittens) and will be helping feed the kittens for the next eight weeks.

Maybe Karma isn't so bad after all.

18. I wish
I was taken to task by some on not getting the dying cat to the vet, but I'll get over the verbal blows. I'm just happy that all the kittens are safe and happy. :7

19. It would be nice to have a kitten but our cat is a crotchety autocrat
who has territorial issues. But we are lucky he's been with us so long.

and only a couple seemed interested in taking formula from the bottle. She's doing a great job. I have to figure out how to do the whole photobucket thing and then I'll get pics up here. d.

My husband said my face looked better than Christmas as I walked back to the house holding all four of them in my arms. I still feel like it was a dream that I even saw them after walking past them so many times!
