So long for now... I'm off to Italy
I will be leaving on Saturday night and will be gone for 2 weeks.

I'll post from Italy if I can... so, in the words of Fr.Guido Sarducci "Arrivederci America!"

4. If you go to any of the little vineyards,
Not only should you taste the wine, but you should also pick up a bottle of grappa. Don't go for the mass produced stuff, but if you're at one of the little family vineyards give it a try.

Have fun, wish I were going with. I've friends in Milano that I need go see.

Enjoy, see you when you get back:hi:

11. Well stay in touch, let me know. I can make a day trip of it... It's just
up the road really.

And I hear Como is lovely. I've been meaning to get there. I'm scoping out places for an August holiday.

8. Where are you planning to go in Italy? What cities/towns?
Edited on Thu May-11-06 01:40 PM by Patiod
I was in Venice for a week for work a few years ago, and am dying to go back with my SO, and see Florence and Rome and lots of other places. Lake Como sounds amazing!!!

10. My plan is:
To fly into Naples, and spend some time there and the islands - Ischia and Capri.
Go to Amalfi, Cetraro Marina, Paola and San Donato Di Ninea.
Then off to Lake Como, Siena, Assisi and maybe Milan and Florence.

There maybe a few surprises here and there that I'm hoping on....

13. Are you taking the trains or driving?
Edited on Thu May-11-06 02:02 PM by radwriter0555
?

If you're taking the trains, watch the pickpockets and the gypsies.

You're doing all this in 2 weeks? That's a lotta road time.

23. Make sure you see Botticelli's Birth of Venus
I think it's in the Uffizi in Florence. And if you get to Rome, see the Sistine Chapel. It's amazing and photos of it can't prepare you. Also, if you want to see Michelangelo's David, check to see what days the Accademia is open. Oh and don't forget the Leaning Tower in Pisa. I think it's open again. It's sort of a thrill walk to the top. Italy is really just one big amusement park with it's 3-D screens and towers of terror.

but we will visit Vienna this year. Actually part of Italy used to belong to the Holy Roman Empire. It would be fun to swing south though.

31. Oh, I'm so jealous
I was lucky enough to be able to go to Rome for 5 days years ago and it wasn't nearly enough time to see everything. Be careful with times of things if you are going by a guide to the city book. My friend and I missed the Sistine Chapel because the book we were using only listed the summer hours and we were there in the fall. If we had only known we would have done the chapel first and then St. Peter's.

We then tried to drown our sorrows in wine (which was great) and pizza (which was not so great) :puke:

Anyway, it will be fantastic so enjoy!
