I'm stuck going to Mary Kay party, tonight.
My SIL is having one, and I couldn't come up with an excuse. I WANT to be supportive of her "venture," but I really don't want to dump money into cosmetics I don't want. I hate these things- candle parties, crappy country "home decor" parties, etc. I always feel obligated to buy crap I don't want, to help out the hostess. OTOH, I've been to a couple lingerie and "toy" parties, and those were FUN, (typically involved alcohol,) and I didn't mind dropping a little bit of change for those kinds of products! Bleh. Should be a riot. :eyes:

4. Well, you could sell Pampered Chef or Watkins.
Pampered Chef actually has some fun gadgets!

12. I am so thinking of you hosting Pampered Chef parties!
You could demonstrate how rolling pins can be used to rake someone's shins!

HAHAHHAHAHHAHA

2. Yeah, the hostess always says you don't have to buy
anything...but then you feel like a schmuck if you don't. I hate the candle parties the most. Hideously overpriced!

3. I've sat in on a sex-toy party
There were no demonstrations by the hostess, my Giggity-Goo expectations went unfulfilled

6. Yeah, no demos at the one I went to either,
but I won ALL the games, and as such, scored myself a penis lipstick, a penis eraser, and a toy which was quite a hoot at home.

8. I've finally stopped being invited
When I was in my 20's, I had so many friends my age who were always throwing those things and you do feel obligated to support and you do feel obligated to buy something. ~sigh~

Now I'm old and no one invites me to anything but funerals. You don't have to buy anything there.

13. maybe there should be things to buy at funerals, SG
for some reason that strikes me as funny.

I haven't been to a tupperware or other party like that in years. I did recently go to a design your own bag fundraiser - got to pick the fabric and everything. That was pretty cool and for a good cause.

14. I hate all parties EXCEPT Mary Kay
And that's only because they have an eyeliner and one particular shade of lipstick that I LOVE.

I make and sell jewelry at a local store, and my friends know this. And yet I'm STILL invited to home jewelry parties. Like I want to spend money on someone else's stuff, which I can buy out in Tucson for 1/3 of the price.

So I just don't go - no Pampered Chef (I don't cook much) no candles (we buy in bulk from HamptonStore.com), no lingerie (sadly, my lingerie comes from Lanz) But am I ever invited to Mary Kay, where I WOULD buy stuff? Of course not!

15. I have a hard and fast rule about those parties.
If you wouldn't invite me over without my checkbook, don't invite me over with it.

If I need something, I go to Ebay.

18. Yeah, those parties are sooooo fun...
...NOT! :eyes: They're not really parties at all---they're mass sales demonstrations! Watch out when a relative/friend/acquaintance tells you they're now selling whatever line and would love to host a "party" at your house. I've been to a Mary Kay party and some sort of candle sales party, and both were agonizing. I LOVE makeup and know a lot about it, and I had to teach the MK rep a few things. Only bought mascara, and I think she was offended. :eyes:

The only parties I'd even consider going to these days would be lingerie/adult toys. Now THAT I can get into! :D
