My dog maimed my glasses... what do I do? HELP!
Ok, I have really bad vision. Like, "where is the eye chart" type vision. I have only 1 pair of glasses that are rather old since they are around $700. My dog maimed them yesterday while I was at work. I can't really afford a new pair. I have to have a pair.

I have 2 options. I can get a new pair.$600-$1000 for any pair that I can wear outside of the house. MY DH and I just bought a new car so cash is low right now.

Option 2: get Lasik. $4k. Financed. $100 per month or so. But, with the new car payment, can I afford that? I am changing jobs at the end of the summer and will be making more (teaching pays well in texas). And that is with tuition coming from payroll deduction. So after that is over (10 months) we will have a lot more money.

I really need advice.

1. Maybe your homeowners/renters insurance will cover them
if you have personal property coverage, you may get some $$ from the insurance company if you put in a claim. Check w/ your agent and see what your deductable is and if you can claim your glasses because it was an "accident".

But be careful with Lasik, too. Oftentimes it doesn't fully correct your vision, especially if you have an odd prescription. Some people still have to wear glasses afterward, depending on the situation.

I'd spend the $$ on new glasses-- that way you'll know you'll be able to see at the end of the day. There's no guarantee that Lasik will fix your vision problems.

2. Get the lasiks. It's an investment that will pay for itself. So you'll
make 10 months of payments and then be able to pay it off with larger chunks sooner or something.

Just knock it on and do it.

3. What kind of glasses do you have?
What frame do you have? Most frames are still in production for 6 to 7 years, at least. If the lenses aren't ruined, and the frame is available, you can still probably buy a new frame that will fit the lenses.

Also, you said $600 - $1,000. What kind of prescription do you have? I'm an optician and unless you have a very, and I mean very, severe prescription calling for special base curves or a slab off or something, I can't think of any lens that would cost even close to $600. You should be able to get a decent frame for $89 to $159, a new eye exam for about $50, and virtually any lens for about $400, tops.

4. I don't quite understand
your vision is so bad that you can't even see to find the eye chart, but your glasses were not with you when you were at work yesterday?

Are you a blind taste-tester at work?
