Good Thursday Morning, Crew!

:donut::hi:
Welcome to the Thursday edition of the Early Morning Crew thread! :bounce: We made it over the Hump Day and now it's clear sailing to the weekend! :woohoo: I hope you had a good day yesterday without too much stress. Mine was stress free thank all the gods.

I've got an appointment with my realtor today to go see at least two houses, so I'm really looking forward to that! I acutally worked it out so that I could take a personal paid day off today so I'm going to spend it seeing properties! :woohoo: I'll have some pictures to post in the morning of those that I see today!

So let's get this day started, my crew! Lots going on!

40. It was rough for few months.
I was taking care of my Aunt at her home in county, no computer. My Aunt took longer to heal, thought I would never get home.

As soon as got home my old computer died, had to buy a new one.

I like normal, I will miss my Aunt.

She has a garden to grow and a farm to take care of, and I need to go back to work.

54. Thanks, I am so glad to back on DU.
I really missed everyone, DU has become a big part of my life.

My Aunt had it worse, she is a very active woman. She is well and can't wait to get busy on the farm.

This is life, sometimes things happen that have be taken care of. Besides she is the only Aunt I have.

69. I am real close to my Aunt, she was always doing things for me
when I was growing up. I am glad that could take the time off to help her.

She is a lot of fun to be with, I will really miss her.

I have been teaching her how to use a computer, so we will be talking everyday now. This way I will know that she is OK.

91. She loves her computer.
A friend of mine who is a computer tech gave her his old one, which isn't but year old.

We will get her set up at home this weekend, lookout internet.

She learned very fast, said she should have got one sooner.

If I don't hear from her, I will contact a neighbor to check on her.

She is like me, she doesn't like to talk on the phone.

When I call her she better answer, she is 80 years old now and if she wants to stay on the farm things have to change.

She has good neighbors on all sides so it is not like she is all alone.

I think I covered all the bases, and she knows she has to be carefull.
It hard to be a mother to a 80 year old.

She is in good shape, better then a lot of 40 year olds I know.

Her mother lived to be 102, so she has a few more years to go.

I will just have to let her go.

Now I know what it is like when a parent sends their kids to schoool for the first time.

She has lots of friends who will drop by, so she will be OK.

It is mostly me, I am the nervous one.

A cousin of hers might move in, that would be great.

Everything will be Ok, it's just me.

Thanks for talking with me about this, I needed to talk about this. :pals:

Fortunately, I live with my best friend. We used to have a couple a few doors down from us who were a lot of fun to be with. And all four of us liked each other ... how often does THAT happen? But they moved to Texas with IBM shortly after we got here. We could have gone, but I refused the offer b/c I didn't want to move harleydad and the kids again. We really miss them.

so she ends up not answering my emails and I don't know if she gets them at all ... until next time I see her. I want to call the cable company in TN and set up my account so I'll know what email address to send everyone. I've tried to call three times, but the wait is always "longer than usual". If I always get that message, why don't they just say, "We are SO short of people to answer the phones that the NORMAL wait time is 45 minutes"?

every day, there are "Zings" in the opinion page and they are basically short lines making fun of someone or some thing going on right now. Here's an example from today's paper:

"Doesn't the president of Iran know that President Bush doesn't read anything longer than a single page?"

"Jeb noted that Katherine Harris' poll numbers were too low for her to win the election. Don't underestimate her ability to fix poll numbers."

So, you have a serious house hunting day coming up. I wasn't pleased to hear about the interest rates increase. Well, maybe that will cause the climbing home prices to slow. And, you can always offer less than the asking price.

85. I sure do know about that!
It'll be OK, though. I mean, you're paying rent now and not building any equity. Our mortgage payment wasn't a lot bigger than our rent payment when we built this house. If you look at it that way, it isn't as scary.

Yeah, the fires are a pain. I'm sure glad we don't live in the woods, though!

We're having a hard time getting things arranged right now ... it's the damn water company in TN. They won't hook up the water without us being there IN PERSON. They won't accept a letter of credit, a copy of our lease agreement, anything at all. We have to be there before they'll turn it on. So I asked, "Do you realize we'll be traveling with four cats for almost two days and we'll need water when we get there?" Too bad. I'm getting all traumatized over it -- I mean, what the hell are we supposed to do without water? And do we really think they'll turn it on the minute we show up and ask them to? Plus, they want a $50 deposit and a $50 meter fee since we'll be renting. (It sure is making me determined to drill a well at the new house!) Anyway, they'll turn it on for the landlord if she'll pay the $100 (which we would have to pay her) and then we can switch it to our names and pay $100 again. I'm thinking it might be worth it, even though it's a major rip-off. So, that's my rant today. The phone and electric companies are being a lot more cooperative.

When we bought our first house, harleydad was unemployed between the second and third mortgage payments. I was convinced we'd set a record getting foreclosed. But he got a job and we never missed a payment. Whew!

I just emailed and asked harleydad if we could let the landlord hook up the water and pay the extra $100 (she'll actually get the $50 deposit back, I think) so it doesn't spoil the excitement for us. I might also call their office of consumer affairs and complain ... like that'll do any good.

Work out that is. It may not do any good, but it will be good for YOU and maybe they will get a complaint against them someway.

130. I told the landlord
I was suprised that we got better service from the water company in the state of fraud. And I was waiting for the one in TN to show me some of that southern hospitality. She says everyone else is nice -- they're just being unreasonable. Anyway, harleydad says we can have the landlord hook it up and we'll just pay the extra. When you're moving, an extra $100 looks like pocket change.

Remember that in the current market, you don't have to offer the asking price. You can come in way low and the sellers will be willing to negotiate. We were on both ends of it this year ... we didn't pay the asking price for the land and didn't get our asking price for the house.

137. Yes, my realtor says the same thing.
Give a low offer and see what they say. I'm sure that's what we'll do. I pay the extra $100 also. Who wants to get to a new place with no water? That would suck. I think you're doing the right thing, but I'm sorry you have to do it that way.:loveya:

140. And their realtor will tell them that the first offer is
usually the highest. Last year, they would just pass over a low offer and wait a little longer. This year is a different story. We negotiated back and forth twice with our buyer before we settled on a price.

Thanks. You would think a credit report would be good enough for them. But it'll be OK ... as harleydad is fond of saying, "In the grand scheme of things, it won't matter."

I'm going to have to get going soon. Lots of things on the schedule today. I hope you find a perfect house. I can't wait for more pics! :bounce: Thanks for chatting with me this morning! :loveya:  :hi:

123. Heya Clint - good stuff about you having a day off !!
At least it gives you time to go look at houses. I saw the pics you took the other day - it looked promising, but you might have to see a brazillion houses before you find one that's right (sorry to scare ya there !!!)

I'm starting to plan my trip to the U.S. later this year - probably mid-October. If it all works out I'll be spending Election Day in New York City, and Thanksgiving in Palm Springs. Can't wait....

Good luck today !!!!!:pals:

136. More like five or six weeks - about two on the east coast
and the rest in California with my brother & sister. One downside is I'm going to miss Cirque Du Soleil - they're here in Brisbane in November. Oh well.

141. They're doing "Varekai" this time - when they were here in 2004
it was "Quidam". I took Mom & Dad that time as their Christmas present, and was going to do the same thing this time. I'll get my niece to take them instead - I'll be in Palm Springs !!!:bounce:
