In the name of the father, and of the + son, and of the holy spirit, amen.

If we say we are without sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us of all unrighteousness.

Most merciful god, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole hearts, we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of your son, Jesus Christ, forgive us, renew us and lead us that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways to the glory of your holy name

(pastor declares forgiveness..."in the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit)
Amen

Kyrie (just my parts in response)

Lord have mercy

Lord have mercy

Lord have mercy

Lord have mercy

Amen

Lord god heavenly king almighty god and father, we worship you we give you thanks we praise you for your glory lord jesus christ only son of the father lord god lamb of god you take away the sin of the world have mercy on us you are seated at the right hand of the father receive our prayer for you alone are the holy one you alone are our god you alone are the most high jesus christ and the holy spirit in the glory of god the father amen.

P: The lord be with you
And also with you!
P: Let us pray...
Hear our prayer
( repeat several times depending on number of petitions)

Amen

Hallelujah Lord to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life Hallelujah!

P: the gospel according to St.____

Glory to you oh Lord!

(pastor reads)

Praise to you oh Christ!

Nicene or Apostles Creed (I need look because the two get mixed up in my head)

Communion liturgy:
Let the vineyards be fruitful lord and fill to the brim our cup of blessing gather a harvest from the seeds that were sown that we may be fed with the bread of life. Gather the hopes and dreams of all, unite them with the prayers we offer. Grace our table with your presence, and give us a foretaste of the feast to come.
P: The lord be with you
And also with you
P:lift up your hearts
We lift them to the lord
P: let us give thanks to the lord our god
It is right to give him thanks and praise

Holy holy holy lord, lord god of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory, hosanna in the highest, blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord, hosanna in the highest.

(Pastor says words of institution)

Lamb of god, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of god you take away the sin of the world have mercy on us. Lamb of god, you take away the sin of the world. Grant us peace, grant us peace.

(walk up, kneel)

P: The body of Christ, given for you.
Amen.
P: The blood of Christ, shed for you.
Amen
(go back)
Thank the lord and sing his praise, tell everyone what he has done, let all who seek the lord rejoice and proudly bear his name. He recalls his promises and leads his people forth in joy with shouts of thanks-giving hallelujah hallelujah.

P speaks the Dismissal
Amen

119. The parts that were added when the green hymnal was published:
Namely:

Hallelujah Lord to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life Hallelujah!

and

Let the vineyards be fruitful lord and fill to the brim our cup of blessing gather a harvest from the seeds that were sown that we may be fed with the bread of life. Gather the hopes and dreams of all, unite them with the prayers we offer. Grace our table with your presence, and give us a foretaste of the feast to come.

and

Thank the lord and sing his praise, tell everyone what he has done, let all who seek the lord rejoice and proudly bear his name. He recalls his promises and leads his people forth in joy with shouts of thanks-giving hallelujah hallelujah.

Now, if you had started out with

Priest: Blessed be God. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
People: And blessed be God's kingdom, now and forever, Amen.

I would have said "Episcopalian, right?"

(When I was in 6th grade, I auditioned for the lead role in our school play. The teacher casting the play cast me as a police officer instead. He told me that he thought I was a better actress than the girl he cast in the lead, but that she was prettier and looked more like a "Maybelle" than I did. That was almost 30 years ago, and I can still hear him telling me that.)

75. Children should be forced to learn to sing.
Edited on Wed May-10-06 10:12 PM by JVS
If you don't learn it when young, you become too self-conscious about it.

My father used to sing in the choir, I regret that I never asked him to teach me to sing. I do ok, but I wish I had the confidence that he had. He, my brother, and I all have very similar voices and people often would mistake us for each other on the phone, so he would have been an ideal person for me to learn from just through mimicry. Sometimes when I sing the old familiar songs from the hymnal, I still hear my father's voice.

37. If I had had some voice training
when I was young, I might have been able to do it professionally. However, I didn't, so my singing is largely for myself. It's not getting up in front of an audience that bothers me (I've done that enough!) it's that I am very self-conscious without real experience in that area.

I remember once, though, when I was working in a music office, and Whitney Houston was on the radio, and I was singing along, and one of the bosses came out and wondered who was singing. I said I was singing along to the radio, and he told me I sounded just like Whitney. I was flattered, but I never did do anything more about it.

57. I Can....
But trust me when I say...it's better if I don't.

When my youngest was still a really little guy, I'd sing to him.

He cried.

When he got a little bit bigger, he'd reach out and try and cover my mouth.

Now they all just laugh.

Hmmmmmph....

63. To say that they don't have much
Is being over-generous.

Good thing I love 'em anyway. And when they're little like that, they're just so....

Now they're used to it. And, sadly, they've all inherited my singing gene.

98. k
(ahem... ahem...)

*swigs lemon juice*

It was a little city by the Bay
We drove our truck a long way there to play
We had a lot of things to think about
It didn't take too long to figure out
We never dreamed that it all would come true
Never thought that we'd have to tell you
But if you ain't found out we're definitely cool

We wrote a song about some local boys
Who had Ferraris as their favorite toys
And their music gave their lives some hope
And their music was White Punks On Dope
We wish we could be just like them
But they didn't want to be friends
'Cause their lifestyle got scarred from living too hard

I was a punk before you were a punk
You don't believe me? Just step outside and see me baby
I was a punk before you were a punk
You want some action? I'll put your ass in traction baby
I was a punk before you were
I was a punk before you
I was a punk before you were
I was a punk before you

We were a joke at our own record label
They told us, "Make a record, if you're able"
They told us not to take too many chances
And we pissed away our big advances
The producer we got was a jerk
but White Punks was one song that worked
It was shot in the dark that just missed the mark

We were surprised when it caused all this rage
and they wouldn't let us take the stage
We knew we had a lot of what it takes
But we didn't get the lucky breaks
Now it's all such a great big fuss
and they all seem to copy just us
We never got reimbursed for the punks that were first

I was a punk before you were a punk
You don't believe me? Just step outside and see me baby
I was a punk before you were a punk
You want some action? I'll put your ass in traction baby
I was a punk before you were
I was a punk before you
I was a punk before you were
I was a punk before you

I'm currently in an audition-only cathedral choir, and I love it, but I've also sung Eastern European folk music in three different ensembles.

94. Sort of.
I've got a pretty powerful voice, and can sing plainchant (which contrary to its title can be pretty complex) but I've never been taught harmony sufficiently to sing polyphonic music very well.

I used to sing in my church choir when I was at university which was nearly all plainchant. I've cantored services (i.e., leading member of the choir) including the Easter Vigil Mass once, which is a two hour service pretty much entirely chanted.

I really should see about getting some singing lessons.

But I'm way out of practice. I think the tones are richer than they were when I was young.

I didn't say people LIKED to hear me sing, however. In my head I can hear pitches perfectly, and I can whistle very well, but I, uhm, can't replicate them with my singing voice AT ALL.
