I got pulled over today.
For....get this.... driving without my headlights on in the (light) rain! Plbbbt! I didn't get a ticket or anything, and the officer was very, very nice. I'm such outlaw. :eyes:

Once I was pulled over for driving around in the dusk, with my parking lights on. Apparently I have some issues.

6. Nice you didn't get a ticket
It is a good habit to flick the lights on in the rain (especially if there's a law to do so like there is now in California). Even light rain - better safe than sorry. The downside of course is that if your vehicle doesn't have a warning signal, you can leave 'em on and run down your battery. I hate that.

But the thing is, even if you can see fine, a lot of times other drivers can't see you.

Instead of looking for aggressive or fast drivers, stolen cars, road-rage nuts, etc. we have highly trained and highly paid police officers risking their lives for us by pulling over women with their headlights on in light rain.

Minivan and kids or not.

I don't get tickets either. And yes, it is sexist and unfair, but I figure the good Lord gave me what he gave me and I'll chock it up to sticking it to the man for everything women have to deal with that's unfair the other way. Am I going to ask to pay the ticket because I think the officer finds me attractive? No!

35. I got pulled over for
a burned-out tail light. As if the LAPD doesn't have bigger things to worry about.

Officer: I pulled you over because your tail light is out.
Me: Oh...it is?
Officer: (looking very annoyed) Yes.
Me: Sorry, I didn't realize that. I'll get it fixed ASAP.
Officer: Yeah, you will, cuz I'm writing you a ticket.
Me: Uhh...ok...

As if I fucking stand behind my car and have someone else tap my brakes to ensure that they work every morning before I drive it. :wtf:

More annoyingly, in order to clear the ticket, I have to make an appointment with a person at the sheriff's office so they can check and make sure the light works, then I have to send proof and money to the court. Or...I have to go to court. Yes, that's right. LA Superior Court for a burnt-out headlight. Complete with a fucking bail hearing.

Seems a bit of overkill, don't you think?

61. I'd be fine with a fix-it ticket
In my experience in previous states those act more like a warning ticket...get it fixed within 30 days and don't let us catch you with this problem again, basically. That wouldn't bother me at all.

But no, it's a full on ticket. I have to pay a fine regardless of whether or not it gets fixed within 30 days and if I don't get it checked out at the sheriff's department, pay them to do that, get the correct paperwork filed and pay my fine by the predetermined court date...it turns into a bail hearing.

Re-fucking-diculous.

I assumed it was an "equipment violation," which in Kollyforniya costs you nothing (except time and the cost of repair) if fixed within 15 days. I can't imagine why they'd consider a taillight a moving violation.

for doing 57mph in a 50...I was caught by an automatic speed trap, which is placed 100 yards after the limit changes from 70 to 50, and I was slowing down! I had every intention of doing 50, I was just a little spaced out that day and killed my speed too slowly!

That's going to take four years for those three points to come off my licence. I was clean until then! :grr:

Why? Because they fucking work!!!

We have new-fangled extra-evil ones now. The old kind measure your speed by radar doppler shift at one place and get you that way. The new extra-evil kind read your number plate electronically at one point on the road, and then again a fixed distance down the road. Say, a couple of miles. It times how long it takes you to get from A to B, and if your average speed is over the limit, you're busted!

They strip all context and reduce it to simple equations.

Plus they are placed not where they'll have an effect on safety (my village has been trying to get one on that basis for a while, to no avail), but where they'll rake in the most fines. :grr:
