What are the little things that make you smile?
I thought about this this morning when I put my cow hairtie in and then again while driving as I put the car into passing gear on a straightaway just for fun- there are certain little things in life that make me really happy even though they aren't terribly important in the grand scheme of things. So here are a few of mine, in no particular order, if anybody wants to share thier little pleasures in reply please go ahead:

driving a little faster than I should
my cow hairtie
when leftykid steals my nose and pretends to eat it
hummus sandwiches
turning the car stereo up for a good song
clean laundry smell
that goofy snorting noise my boyfriend does when he laughs
chocolate almond milk when it's really really cold
when leftykid laughs in his sleep

What are the little things that make you happy?

2. Okay:
Edited on Tue May-09-06 09:50 PM by WritingIsMyReligion

  • Hitting a line just perfectly in poetry.
  • Lovely feeling of "ivory"--really goddamned plastic over wood x(--beneath my fingers in the morning.
  • Turning the radio/stereo up for a kick-ass song.
  • Waking up on a Saturday early and having the WONDERFUL realization that I can just roll right back asleep.
  • Being just a tad bit cold in bed and having to "snuggle" more closely to myself under the covers.
  • Listening to even just a few minutes of Kind of Blue.
  • Listening to just a few minutes of all jazz, actually.
  • Eating a really "good" lunch, preferably with cheese, chips/salsa, ginger beer--and progmom's show, of course! :hi:
  • Coming home from school on a Friday and knowing that I don't have to do a damned thing right then if I don't want to.
  • Daydreaming. End of story.
  • Drinking this really good iced green tea of my mom's in summer.
  • Smelling freshly mown lawn in summer.
  • Plunging off of the wharf of the island where I spend a few weeks in summer.
  • Checking my e-mail and finding messages from some of my favorite people there. Damn, is that ever one of the happiest little jolts. :D

And so on, and so on...

6. Here are a few:
- When I ask my little 10 month old "Where's Daddy" and he points at me and gives me a wry little grin.

- Watching old footage of the mid-late 80's Boston Celtics (I was a HUGE Bird fan)

- Hearing L.O.V.E. by Nat King Cole (wedding song) and singing along with my wife

- Playing the "What sound does the _____ say?" game with my son and hearing him laugh hysterically.

- Hitting a nice jumper in the face of the defender at noon basketball on a Friday.

- Summit IPA

- Faith No More's rendition of "Easy Like Sunday Morning" from the Angel Dust album.

- Email notification from Fantasy Baseball leauge notifying me of a pending trade offer.

There are certainly more.

11. Some of the things that make me smile are...
Waking up in the morning and seeing the sun shining outside my window.
The sound of rain on the roof after I've gone to bed at night.
Watching my cats play and chase each other around the house.
Starting to read a good book.
Finishing a book that had a good ending.
Pretty much anything chocolate.
Hearing that a Democrat has won the presidential race.
Taking a walk on a nice day.
Winning a few bucks on the lottery.
Knowing my husband and son are doing well and are happy.
Playing word and trivia games on forums I visit.
Chatting with people on UK forums, because it's nice to talk to people in other countries.

:applause: :woohoo:

12. My smiles...
...when my 3y.o. great-grandaughter says "Good!" when I ask her how her day was.
... at the smell of the bay at lowtide and how it reminds me of musty bureau drawers at our summer place when I was a kid.
...the times when the wild turkeys hang out in my yard while I weed.
...walking barefoot on the clean kitchen floor.
...when I do home visits and it hits me that the program I work with actually makes a difference for the lonely, elderly people we serve.
...at whoever drives by every night around 10 with a faulty muffler. Don't have any idea who it is, but I always figure they got home safely.
...the sound of the ocean in the middle of the night. That's my 'short' list. :)

19. A written evaluation from an instructor.
It's in my degree of study in the specialty I want to go into and my evaluation was twice as long as anyone's else's with specifics regarding how good I was (in both my technical and communication skills) and how I have massive leadership potential in the field. :headbang:
