No Offense to Hunters........ (well maybe a little)
But it drives me CRAZZZZZZZZZY,
when I watch a hunting show on ESPN2.....
and watch them shoot and kill and animal,
then go play with the carcass and talk about how pretty it is....

WTF is that?!!?

Hunting is not my bag....
but I see the need for it.... The deer population in NJ is out of control....
Although,
are hunting practices are kind of a reversal of Darwin....

because instead of culling the weak, sick and old.
our hunters seek out the best and strongest, as trophies....

so I assume we are creating a race of genetically deficient deer...

no wonder they run in front of cars.

1. Why do you watch a hunting show?
I can't even look at catch-and-release fishing.

I have a lot of respect for the guy who built my house. I like him as a friend.

He's a hunter. On the wall in his house is a mounted buck's head. Under the buck's head, the front hooves of the buck are mounted as a rack for the rifle that killed him.

I will never understand this.

20. It's a tacky good ol' boy thing
I'm a hunter. What I don't eat is tossed out. I can usually toss out the leavings from a deer in a very small trash bag.

2. "The deer population in NJ is out of control"

Take your brain out of the front-loader.

Now repeat after me....

"The human population is out of control"

5. True....
but it's all relative....
we can't go back to Eden,
can't undo fire, and the wheel, and all of the advancements that made man a global phenomenon.....

that fact is a given...
and all such topics must assume it.

Why did I get this sudden picture of deer rioting in the streets and looting stores? I just had this flash of Bambis dad carrying a TV and VCR out the front window of the local electronics store :).

this way. He never exclaims how pretty a deer is and we don't watch hunting shows...I guess there are different types of hunter.

be alright.:eyes:

7. Try watching Discovery instead of Disney.
Deer are NOT "genetically deficient" because they run in front of cars.

We humans have put our roads right smack into the middle of THEIR habitat, especially those "scenic drives."

So it's no wonder they get clobbered by the Yuppies in their SUV's, driving with a cell phone.

I've hunted deer, (never got one,) and ducks. (Got a couple of those.)

I also love catching fish.

I enjoy eating what I catch.

Hunting is so regulated, people are sitting in jail cells right now for poaching and shining deer in many counties here in WI.

It's the slobs on "canned hunts," poachers, and "shoot at anything that moves" nitwits, in addition to the "Don't kill Bambi!" PETA numbskulls that ruin a decent sport for the rest.

Any questions???

In Spain, they show bullfighting in the sports channels. Yep, some sport. Some bozo in a funny suit sticks a sword in the neck of a bull. Bull spits a truckload of blood, crumbles and dies. Wheeee. What technique. What an extremely skilled sportsman. NOT.

On edit: and let's not forget the prolonged torture foisted upon the animal to make it weak and therefore less risky to the aforementioned COWARD BOZO.

I am half-Spaniard. This is a source of deep, deep shame to me.

9. I'm not anti-hunting but I DO have an issue...
with some as yet unknown hunters who up until now I've allowed to hunt on my property (no more). What they do is:

1. Shoot at deer and miss and leave shell casings all around;
2. Kill the deer and leave shell casings all around
3. Cut out the best edible parts of the deer in the woods
4. Leave the hacked up carcass lying there TO ROT and for all the neighborhood dogs to eat/play with/roll in etc.

Note to hunters: TAKE THE ENTIRE F**KING ANIMAL WITH YOU AND DISPOSE OF IT PROPERLY! It's not like I live in the middle of some deserted wilderness where it would be difficult to transport the animal! AND PICK UP YOUR DAMN SHELL CASINGS ALSO!

End rant...

11. my thoughts
its not the individual, its the group. As long as the herd is not endangered, its not a problem. The ecological benefits of trophy hunting, NJ as an example, is that the bigger more fit bucks are able to create more offspring than smaller bucks. Take out the big ones, you reduce overall numbers. Larger, trophy bucks can reproduce (with some help of course) at 7x the rate of smaller bucks. Trophy hunting also cuts down on gentic problems as it reduces instances of interbreeding, dad producing offspring with daughter. Trophy hunting does not affect herd health unless all established adult males are taken out of the local herd. One adult male can service hundreds of does....lucky sob's.

Sometimes people who dont hunt or like the idea of hunting dont see that they too kill, but with another weapon... their dollars. If you eat meat, you kill. Its not right to fault hunters when you too are responsible for death.

I heard once, ....something, something, dont blame me because you dont want to get your hands dirty.

15. Well, I'm anti-hunting.
And what is ironic is that I work for a hunting and fishing publication. Before I came to this job, I was a meat-eater, but after reading all the graphic deer-hunting stories (which I must do, as it is my job), I became a vegetarian. And I do not consider hunting a sport, mainly because the other side does not know there is a game going on. And only one of the players is armed.

17. uh oh !
one subject that is sure to start a flame war.

i do not having a problem with hunting if it is for the purpose of nurishment. sport hunting is another matter entirely.

industrialized farming is far worse than hunting on the enviroment, the animal, and You. the appreciation you hear by hunters is exactly that, appreciation and respect. something lost in the convenience of a grocery store.
