My butts
When I smoked, I never flicked them from my car window, and I always emptied the ashtray in the trash...not the median strip at the first red light I came to.

I quit smoking a long time ago; and apparently the habit is on the decline. But butts still abound along the roadside, awaiting the next rain to wash them into the river. I respectfully request that smokers consider their disposal of their own butts with care and concern for the environment.

Thank you. :loveya:

1. Here in Washington, you can get fined over $1000 for throwing
a butt out the window of your car. I didn't do that before the law was enacted, but if I had, that would sure stop me.

3. I wish they'd do that around here...
And double the fine during droughts.

2. The people on the unit upstairs from me drop their butts down the stairs
and onto my patio. I talked to them about it, but it still happens occasionally.

5. It pisses me off. I'm thinking maybe if I collect them (wearing gloves)
for awhile then dump them all by their doorstep maybe they will get the message.

10. You could spell stuff with the butts!
Like "Keep your stinky butts on your own patio." I smoke, and I will stick the dang butt in my pocket until I find a garbage can to put it in. It might smell up my own pocket, but they dont' belong in the street.

6. That drives me nuts
As well as the folks that do smoke just dropping their butt on the sidewalk without stamping it out when going into a public place that does not allow smoking.

7. Years ago, I attended a summer program in which the music director
made everybody pick up their butts from the grounds of the rehearsal hall. After that, I always put extinguished butts in the celophane wrapper surrounding the pack of cigarrettes, or something similar.

11. I'd love to — but where?
I've never had a problem with "smoke outside" laws — but if this is the mandate, it'd be prudent for ash trays or butt cans to be placed at common smoking locations.

12. I roll-my-own....
I put them out before dropping them. They usually disappear quickly. We do get 10 months of rain per year. I don't drive. During the summer I avoid combustible pockets of the landscape.

13. That's part of the reason I used to smoke unfiltered cigarettes.
Biodegradable, you know.

14. I always kept an ashtray in my car
and hated seeing other smokers wantonly throwing their burning butts out the window.

I suppose I'll hate it even more now that I quit.
