So I met this cute republican last night
while I was out celebrating Cinco de Mayo. We started talking and got along really well. We danced a couple times and he bought me a drink. About two hours into our acquaintance my (male) friend asked him if he was a Democrat. No, he said, I'm a Republican. A WHAT? I said, and asked him to explain how he could possibly support GWB. I shouldn't have. He went crazy! Started yelling and demanding to know, like, why was the shrub being judged for his "one mistake", and how my party had nothing to offer. SOS. Finally he leapt to his feet and stormed off. You know, he was cute!

Well, this morning my phone rang. I didn't answer it, but recognized his voice. He said, "Hello, I'm doing a survey. Do you like George Bush? If you would like to have a conversation about the matter, please call XXX-XXXX." I laughed out loud, because I knew he was sorry about the fight. Am I gonna call him? NO FARKING WAY!

But damn, he was cute! Black hair and brown eyes. Ah...

9. No James Carville/Mary Matalin thing going?
How those two stand each other is a mystery to me.

Too bad he wasn't one of those Republicans who have turned on Bush -- I know a bunch of those and they are as worked up about him as I am.

The guy has bad judgement, at the very least. Heck -- anyone who supports Bush in 2006 must be barking mad. Best avoided.

13. You think you had it bad...?
Here's my story, it's sad but true...

Remember 1972? Nixon versus McGovern? The last gasp for the antiwar movement and traditional liberalism.

I'm a shy, somewhat geeky 16-year-old who's never even had a girlfriend. (To put it mildly, I didn't fit in at the jock-house school I'd attended until then.) I'd also spent much of the spring campaigning for McGovern.

I'm flying home from Europe with my parents. Across the aisle from me, there's this girl. 13 years old. Cute. And smart, funny, all those good things. She notices me reading a chess book, and we wind up spending the rest of the flight playing each other on my pocket chess set. I'm also spending the rest of the flight falling for her. She only mentions her first name, Lizzie.

Anyway, we're about to arrive in Boston, and I don't want to just have her drift out of my life. Being too shy to simply ask her out, or even ask her for her phone number, I decide to try to find out her full name from her luggage tag, so that I could look up her number and call her under the pretext of continuing our last chess game, which we'd never finished. So, as we're all about to get off the plane, she gets her carry-on bag. I get a good look at the name-tag, and only then realize that I've spent the last four hours or so falling for Henry Kissinger's daughter -- a girl whose father is Secretary of State in the Nixon administration (which I consider the very force of darkness itself).

:wow:

Believe it or not, I'm actually able to find her family's phone number in the Boston directory. (I guess they were less concerned in those days about people looking for the ex-wife and kids of someone famous.) But I never call -- it just seems like we're from the proverbial two different worlds. I figure she's probably a conservative like her father, and would want nothing to do with a guy who's spending most of his free time working on a campaign to drive him out of office. And I couldn't imagine myself in a relationship with "the enemy," either.

And, you know what? I was stupid. Because, a couple of years ago, I decided to find out what she was up to. A short Google search revealed that Elizabeth Kissinger, the daughter of the famous statesman, was now a doctor -- and involved in just about every progressive medical and human-rights organization around. A far cry from her father, the champion of conservative realpolitik. Those family reunions ought to be interesting, to put it mildly.

(And, in case you couldn't guess...when I finally did find a girlfriend, the following summer, she turned out to be a Nixon supporter. Although, by the time Watergate had drawn to a close, she wasn't one any longer.)

emotional disturbances. They have underdeveloped superegos, and this causes them to live in a shallow, childlike id state where their only concern is for themselves. They completely lack the ability to feel empathy with others, which is why they can support unnecessary wars that kill and maim little babies, and not feel even the slightest flicker of remorse, especially if they profit from the war financially.

Take the pretty wrapping paper off your republican cutie, open the box, and you'll find a writhing nest of snakes waiting to bite you.

(I can't believe I wrote that!) ;)

Actually one of my favorite bf's from high school was a Rep. (I later learned) who desperately wanted to join the CIA. He was crushed when his past drug use ruled that out. He was a great kisser, too.

I guess what I'm saying is that Dems and Reps probably can get along, although in light of this particular administration I can see how it might be difficult.
