5. Safeway sucks

A few years ago they bought and promptly destroyed a very popular grocery chain in the Chicago area (Dominick's). They dumped popular local brands for Safeway brands which people hated, and sales fell. Before putting them on the block, they tried to bust the union (they failed; the talk was they were trying to set a precedent in order to bust unions in other markets if they succeeded in Chicago).

8. Safeway bought Dominick's?

I loved Dominick's when I lived in Chicago. I'm glad Safeway failed to ruin them. When I lived in Seattle, we called Safeway "Slaveway" because of its anti-union activities.

Safeway sucks. Wal-Mart sucks.

The stores have gone way downhill since Safeway purchased them. They are about to sell Dominicks to Supervalue, which owns Cub Foods.
