I'm hoping that I'm finally getting to be more stable on a consistent basis. I think we have the muscle spasms under control.

Today there was a woman on Oprah who had been set on fire by her estranged husband - and she lived through it to tell her story. Talk about giving a person perspective. It really hits home that my pain is, ultimately, insignificant and that I will heal. I can't even begin to tell you the emotions that I went through watching that show today. No more feeling sorry for myself.

76. My latest "Gosh I'm great" pic from this afternoon!

What a great time I had. I got blown up repeatedly, one time this feature (railroad hole) threw my entire boat out of the water. Yup, my entire boat, and all of me too, except of course for my HEAD, so I didn't see any of it! I thought it was just a regular ol' beat-down not a super-special ass-kicking. What a great time!


PS I think this ride lasted about a minute, I'm doing a nice "high brace' in a side surf here. :hi:

Where was that taken? This is the New River in WVirginia. The second time we went down, we got stuck in a pocket in class 4 rapids for ten minutes. We put up a really exhausting fight, and we cheered when we extracted ourselves from it.

141. Mine was taken on the Vermillion river in Hastings (nnns will know

where Hastings is)

The drainage area for "The Verm" is only about 100 square miles, so it responds to rain events VERY quickly. At a flow of 100 cubic feet per second (cfs) it is a fun, mostly harmless, class II run, by about 250 cfs it is a definite class III, I've had friends who've paddled it at over 1000 cfs--full on class IV!

My pic is taken at about 180 cfs, so it's somewhere between II-III, in other words the river may dish out a little what-for, but there are no features that will endlessly recirculate you, or pin you under a boulder etc.

However, to an uprght boat the hole I'm in (pic above) is very retentive, i.e. hard to get out of--this is a good thing for pulling off tricks and moves! When the time comes to get out you either dig for the side and try to climb out the shoulder, or as in most of my rides I usually flipped and then your body catches the downstream current and you get pushed out. It's awesome! :D What you get pushed in to is a nice big pool, so even if you swim (I didn't) you have PLENTY of time to get yourself sorted out before the next drop.

It's cool today, and I'm kinda busy, but the Verm should be a gas for a few days yet! :hi:

164. The galas are funny.

Actually since this was for "Of Mice & Men," the director bought in a bottle of whisky for the cast & crew. (There's a line: "Last Christmas, the boss came right in here and set a jug of whisky on that table and said 'Drink up boys!'") So we all did a couple rounds of shots in the greenroom before actually joining the party.

These things start out by everyone acting all high-class and within an hour we're just acting like drunken idiots (the patrons are calmer though). The real fun starts at all the after-parties. We got company housing working there so pretty much everyone had some sort of party going on at their house. Then, you just start hitting the houses.

The actual event is still pretty cool though. If you're actually seeing the show, you get a champagne intermission. After the show, it's unlimited beer & wine and lots of awesome food. All the restuarants (really good ones) in town donate platters.

He looked at me and said, "Isn't it?" I said, "Dan, I love your nose so much I don't know what to do sometimes." And he kept studying the pictures and shaking his head, muttering about his nose.

As for my mug... I'm still doing the Khash vs. Bookcase thang. If you enjoy trainwrecks..... that's what I look like. The swelling hasn't gone down, the bruises faded but have come back. I think I did more damage than I originally thought. It ain't pretty. So there will be no pictures :)
