I overheard a coworker LYING to her boss ABOUT ME.
How do I respond without letting my supervisor think I heard?

Or should I let him know upfront I overheard some words being mentioned?

Or should I quit on the spot? I know nothing is out there, but whop said thaqt would stop me?

The sad part is, there is another coworker who has tried this sort of shit as well - and documentation has shown him wrong, but I'm not sure my supervisor gives a flying fig.

An affront like this cannot go unanswered!
You must deliver the shaming blow,
in which your foe's buttocks are cut off!

3. As Conan once said...
General: "What is best in life?"
Conan: "To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women."

5. I will be.
Tomorrow.

I will say I had heard some words said.

My boss knows that it's not the truth because the he himself vetoed a decision I made and I had to resolve it alone. :)

Upon reflecting, my cowoker is adding in some truths with some envelope-pushing embellishments. But those embellishments really do push the envelope, as I went to him nearly 2 weeks ago and he said he didn't care either way.

Trouble is, the fact he's been avoiding me for virtually all job-related things is not very nice...

Most of this is silly... but when management prefers to not manage and is new to his job as well, it's a big mess.

And I'd rather let these liars get the boot; all they do is waste others' time with technical questions or chat all day anyway. (I've not said that to management as it's not my business nor do I want to be a "problem employee", but things are not going well and I know they will be at a loss without me and... I will walk if I have to; the strain on my psyche is almost intolerable at this point and I betcha my traducers know it too.)

4. Ignore it
It's work shit. Goes on all the time, whether you hear it or not.

6. Good point.
I'll write down the list of events... if management calls me on it, I'll let him know them all.

So much the better, actually...

7. What's wrong with the fact that you happened to hear it?
You couldn't help it. By all means, you should diplomatically say something.

Like "I'm sorry, but I happened to hear (that bitch) mention my name when she was talking to _______..." And then set the record straight, without seeming hostile about it.

8. Hmmm...
I'd rather have him make the move, if there is a concern. And with luck, he'll remember his decision which already flies in the face of what he's been told.

I've got facts on my side and to go rushing in saying "I heard this, so this is what happened" would not be good. Even if I am the one not lying. (and I have said where I am at fault, and he knows my PDD as well. If he wants proof, I've got the phone number for him to call too.)

No, I think this time I will write down incidents and save them for the future. Why should I end up a psychotic, paranoid anxiety crank because the dregs of society wish to play a game? No. No more games. Boss man told us to talk to each other. Others are clearly not doing so. I am, in one form or another, and (until now) mentioned the incident and saying I already left them a message and acknowledged they may not have time to get it yet. Big deal.

It's angering; but as has been said, that shit happens everywhere. So if I did leave, nothing will change for the better. I've got to try... Let them be the fools. Management will know, and if management cares about what's going on, they will intercede accordingly.

Besides, with nothing out there I may as well stick a gun barrel up my mouth and pull the trigger. (I'm glad I don't own a gun! :D )

And, yeah, I need to do some growing up too. Might be hard, but I've got to try. Which is more than what can be said for the others right now, it seems.

9. Sounds like a good plan, take the high road
You know the culture of your work place so you know how to play it.

The boss is only human, and hearing about "an incident" too much from different people may stress them out. And then the next person who talks to the boss about "the incident" might get the "shoot the messenger" treatment.

Good luck!

10. Make sure you have the documentation, make sure with your
supervisor that they actually said that, then call your coworker on lying.

Dishonesty.... grrrrrrr.....
