11. From the Empire State Building, looking north. I will never forget, though
the view from the observation floor of the World Trade Center. The glass went from ceiling to floor and you could get right up to it and get the sensation that you were floating. And it was a MUCH higher view than the one above.

14. I fervently wish I had been able to do that
That was on my list of things to do before I die (observation deck at WTC). So was fly on the Concorde...

Guess I had better add a couple of things to replace those.

But my girlfriend was scared of heights and wouldn't take the elevator.

20. The Chrysler Building is north and east of Empire State Building
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 08:29 AM by Hissyspit
as you see in the photo. The Empire State Building is surrounded by many of the shorter buildings of the garment district you see in the lower foreground of the photo, so I'm still going to call it as a shot from the Empire State Building observation deck.

24. No, you're right - I am far too tired to try to say anything smart.
That is NOT the Empire State Buildding in the photo because, as you say, the Chrysler building is nowhere near the ESB, which I know...

God, my mind is working for shit right now...

21. Isn't that from the Empire??
I used to work there and had a very similar view, though I was on the northwest corner and I think this is from the northeast corner. Thats a strange building with all these bends that make strange views. It was designed to create lots of windows and have the center offices be close to windows. I miss working there.

26. The view from the Windows on the World
was just incredible. Been up there in the evening after sunset (and a couple of cocktails) and the view of the city is just stunning!

27. It's not really high res — but a process called HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE (HDR)
that uses 3 different exposures composited together. You can do it in Photoshop CS2 or a program called Photomatix

Here's more about the process:

28. When I lived in NY, I worked in an office that looked over this scene...
on the 72nd floor of the Empire State Building. All that's missing is the WTC. :(

That's a stunning picture. Looks almost like a painting.
