Watching "Contact" & the fundies are freakin' TERRIFYING!!!!
They terrify me because if the scenario depicted in the movie actually happened, that's EXACTLY how they'd act.

I must say, as a firm non-believer, the little speech Matthew McConaughey gives to Jodie Foster when she says she needs proof of god's existence is pretty good stuff.

1. That movie was filmed in my town
I saw it in philosophy when we were debating the existance of a god and not. Was interesting honestly since I believe in a benevolent god which put me in the middle agaisnt non-thiests and those who believe in a more vengeful god.

2. The book goes into the religion aspect even more than the movie
The book has a bunch more on the religion issue. And the whole ending scene with the testimony is much reduced in the book (I don't to spoil it for those who haven't read it, but those who have read the book know why).

There's a eloquent discussion about religion (specifically about faith) in the book. Overall, the book is excellent!

3. 'Contact' recieved many standing ovations in Ithaca, NY
My sister was a grad student at Cornell and was attending when 'Contact' was released. Carl Sagan used to teach at Cornell. So when the movie ended and the words "For Carl" appeared on the screen EVERYONE stood up and gave the film a standing ov. It was very touching from what I understood.

A great movie none the less.
