I need a hug
I was fired from my job today because of some apparent security violation. The thing is, I don't even remember doing one of them. And I was never warned not to use a stairwell to go home.

6. see a lawyer
Edited on Mon Apr-24-06 02:58 PM by jukes
they won't charge for a consultation, and it REALLY sounds to me that you have a case. i'm pretty sure there have to be disclaimers signed for secure areas and secure areas must be posted. why wasn't the damn door locked?

seriously, spend an hour w/ a labor lawyer.

8. If the OP is an at-will employee (as most people are), s/he can be fired
for any reason (except for discrimination or other protected reasons) or no reason at all. Unless the employer said "you're not allowed in that stairwell because you're black so we're firing you," there isn't a case.

And to the OP: Sorry you lost your job.

15. I was an "at-will" employee
unfortunately. It's going to be hard finding a new job in this economy.

But, if you were never warned, and it's not in any employee handbook you signed or anything, call a lawyer.

I agree with whoever wrote upthread that you should speak to a lawyer to see if you have any legal recourse.

Good luck!

Still you might have a case if you wish to pursue it.

I'd find another job if it were me. One where people are honest and upfront.

But yeah it's a slap in the face! So if you need a hug.... you got one :)

Khash.

It's a little bit like what happened to me at a prev. job in that I was let go when a report wasn't finished in time, but no one told me of a deadline. Workers have so few rights in this country.

23. Sounds like you were in the wrong place,
working for the wrong people.

I'm sorry, I know it hurts. Feeling rejected is always painful.

But every time a door closes, another one opens up before you. This is an opportunity for a new beginning. You are going to discover that a perfect job has been waiting for you out there, and you might have missed it if you were still working.

When you start at this new, better job, make sure to send your former employer a thank you letter. Tell them how much you appreciate what a favor they did you by letting you go.

"Fortune presents gifts, not according to the rules.
When you expect whistles, it's flutes.
When you expect flutes, it's whistles"
