I just bought a new laptop. This one has wireless built in. The questions.

If I pick up a wireless network in my apartment complex, can they see what I email if I use their network?

My old laptop had a slot for the Verizon Broadband Card. I am hesitant on putting it in. Will it completely screw up the settings in the new laptop?

If you can help, it would be appreciated. God help me if I get one of those IPods things.

But if you are picking up an unsecured wireless network in your apartment building, there is a chance that the person who is paying for the service would be able to intercept anything coming and going on it. Whether that person is savvy enough to actually do it is another thing, since it is kind of risky to run an unsecured wireless network with neighbors stealing bandwidth, and neighbors downloading illegal stuff - which gets blamed on the network owner if investigated.

Inserting the Verizon network card should not affect anything else on the computer.
