17. I really liked it. It was strange...like Cage.
Michael Caine was great. It was a mix of depression, dysfuntion, but hilarious at the same time.

Edited on Sat Apr-22-06 08:48 PM by Capn Sunshine
I was in Sacramento, and had a night to kill.
Well, Davis, actually. So that was.....February?

GREAT MOVIE. Very sad. But great. Triumph of the spirit. I really liked the whole production, the cinematography, the staging in the shanty towns, the stark contrast to the dry elite uppercrust Brit heritage social gatherings. The whole deal

16. "Plaga Zombie - Mutant Zone" -- Genius. Utter genius.

It's an Argentinian horror comedy fully taking its inspiration from early Peter Jackson Evil Dead II, Re-animator, etc and actually being worthy of that comparison. The action and gags barely let up and there's some wonderfully creative deaths. I can see me playing it to unsuspecting friends for many years to come.

Bargain basement DVD too -- I imported it from the States for just over £5 and the DVD comes with the first Plaga Zombie film as an extra!

Too Hot Not To Handle
A 1-hour documentary on the climate crisis, by HBO and the Union of Concerned Scientists.

I saw a preview screening in Harvard Square, pretty close to the UCS main office. We had a Q&A with a couple of them after the movie. Very worthwhile. I hope they make it cheaply available on DVD.

MM was with Nicolas Cage & some really good supporting actors. Enjoyed it a lot.

Twilight had Paul Newman, Gene Hackman, Stockard Channing, Susan Sarandon and James Garner. Nice watching all these pros in a good thriller (not great, but good). Also, a very young-looking Reese Witherspoon (though it was only 8 years ago).

It was okay, but not as good as Cate Blanchett's version.

Also, there are very graphic disembowelings. About 3/4 of the way through, Elizabeth has some rebels disemboweled, while alive. They show the entire thing in detail.

76. Yeah, that pretty much made up my mind.
As soon as I read in The New York Times review that the film Elizabeth I contained a historically accurate depiction of the hideous execution of Mary Queen of Scots (she didn't die with the first blow of the ax), I decided I wasn't going to rent the DVD when it came out. Then The Washington Post review mentioned the hanging, drawing, and quartering with no detail spared, and that did it for me. I admire Helen Mirren a great deal, but not enough to attempt watching that.

By the way, I understand this film is far more historically accurate compared to the Cate Blanchett one, which took considerable liberties.
