8. Here's a sub question to your question: Five Favorite Bowie albums
Can NOT Be one of his 5 dozen great hits collections (he does put out alot of those)

Mine:

  1. Hunky Dory
  2. Ziggy Stardust
  3. Alladin Sane
  4. Low
  5. Let's Dance (sentimental favorite because it was the first concert tour I ever saw of real music and not that crap Shaun Cassidy my mother drug me to when I was 12)

11. Let's Dance wasn't one of his top 5 albums, just sentimental value
It was probably the 5th album I ever bought and the first time I was able to go to a concert with my friends (we were about 5 feet from the front). So the reason it's top 5 isn't the quality of the music but of what it signifies in my life. I now have over 500 albums (ie - vinyl) and about 400 CDs - and probably this journey started because of music like David Bowie's.

He's in my top #10 of favorite musicians/group of all time

16. "Hunky Dory", "The Man Who Sold The World", "Station To Station"...
"Diamond Dogs", and "The Idiot" Yes, I know that "The Idiot " is an Iggy Pop record, but Bowie contributed just as much to its brilliance. It's the finest work from both of them.

so you can't really listen to it much.

i pulled out eno/cluster "old land" and realized i'd probably never played it more than twice in the 20 years i've had it. perfect condition. it sounded AWESOME on our mark levinson amp. can't say that for ambient 4.

15. Here ya go...
I've got to go with "Heroes" as THE single best Bowie song, PERIOD (many won't agree, c'est la vie).

When he performed the song at the post-9/11 "Concert For New York City," it was the SHOW-STOPPER.

All of the emotions people had bottled up just let GO. The cops, the firefighters, the rescue workers, and everyone else in attendance...the place fucking EXPLODED. It was the defining moment, whatever you'd like to call it.

:toast:

1). Heroes, "Heroes"
2). Under The God (With Tin Machine)
3). Rebel Rebel, "Diamond Dogs"
4). The Jean Genie, "Aladdin Sane"
5). Let's Dance, "Let's Dance"

32. Tough for me to pick just five! but here goes. . .
(in no particular order)

Golden Years
Rebel Rebel
Young Americans
Jean Genie
Heroes

BTW, if you can, rent a copy of the April 20 1992 tribute concert for Freddie Mercury/Queen.
Bowie does Under Pressure with Annie Lennox, All the Young Dudes with special guest Mott the Hoople, and Heroes. His performance was very moving, as, at the end, he knelt down on one knee and said the Lord's Prayer for a friend of his who was dying of AIDS.
