Poll question: Guys: which hairstyle(s) do you like on women?
OK, so I was at the hairdresser this afternoon, and my hairstylist was in the middle of a big discussion with the other stylists about long or short hair, straight or curly/wavy hair, etc. It was a really animated discussion, and since most of the stylists use flatirons on almost everyone's hair, they all pretty much said that straight hair is best. A couple of them said that they liked long hair, but most said they liked medium-length hair. Only one favored short hair.

I have medium-length naturally wavy hair that is VERY thick, and I do NOT look good with flat, straight hair. I wore it long (nearly to my waist) for quite a while, but it just didn't work well on me since it IS so thick.

Most of the guys I know like long hair. How about you?

1. Medium (shoulder-length) straight

I really think any guy who says he prefers really short hair has got to be bullshitting or making a settling-for-delusion. The way people who can only get fat partners delude themselves into thinking heavy = healthy.

2. I've NEVER (repeat, NEVER) heard a guy say he liked short hair
In the almost 43 years I've been on this planet, I have not heard a guy say he liked short hair. I'm glad to know you have confirmed this! A lot of women wear short hair because it's easier to take care of, but most men think longer hair (medium or longer) is much more attractive. I think it's because short hair can be more severe-looking (not always, but sometimes it is).

I'm an occasional actor and had to grow my hair long for about 9 months for a theater production and then an independant film (the latter of which looks like it will never see the light of day) and I despised it.

46. I have!
and those are the ones I like! I have short hair since 11th grade, and I hate it long. it looks terrible on me. No one has ever said I looked better with long hair. not once.

most women I know with long hair keep it in a pony tail 90% of the time. What's the difference between that and short hair? I just don't get long hair. such a pain in the ass, imo.

3. I got into a pretty heated argument, basically guys like long hair.
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 03:18 PM by tjdee
And by long, I mean shoulder length or longer. Which many times implies straight, because curly hair curls up and makes you lose a lot of length.
I have long hair, but naturally it is wavy/crazy, and it seriously would take me two hours to blow out my hair, so screw that--I don't have the time for that every day.

Apparently, long hair is feminine and youthful, leads to thinking about hair flying about when they're having sex, blah blah blah. Sure, if Salma Hayek cuts her hair short she's hot, but regular women aren't Salma Hayek. I dunno, whenever someone cuts their hair, it always looks better to me. (Except Julia Roberts. :( )

In said conversation, one of the guys actually said that "only old chicks get butch cuts".

I remember seeing a survey or something that women are seen as more attractive and "put together" if their hair is straight.

It is very hard as a woman to do everything you're "supposed" to do to look attractive in this society.

6. Oh I DREAM of straight hair.
And that's probably a bad thing for a black chick to say, LOL, but honestly. To wake up in the morning, run a brush through it and be done? Not worry if it's humid or raining or if you're swimming? Oh sweet lord! My hair isn't that bad actually, and I know literally dozens of women with curly/frizzy hair who have no hair troubles at all--but I'm not girly enough to want to think about my hair ever. It bugs me. :silly:

Someone told me once that everyone wants the hair they don't have, LOL!

do to "fix themselves up." They'd give up after the first day of that! LOL

I get my hair cut and I wash it and blow it dry, but that's the extent of my hair fuss. I think women should do what they want with their hair and everything else.

31. I remember that survey
women with straight, light, and short hair were considered more outgoing and intelligent than those of us with long dark curls. When I first read it I told my then boss she better not get any ideas and try to dock my pay.

I recently cut five inches off my hair but it's still past my shoulders. Anything shorter than this would be too high maintenance for me.

My insignificant other (best friend, sometime pucker partner), Annie has waist length hair, and it's just a pain in the ass. I'm always getting caught in it.

Long hair DOES NOT LOOK GOOD on women over the age of 40. If my beautiful Annie can't pull it off, no one can.

I don't tell my husband how to wear his hair, he doesn't tell me how to wear mine.

I've worn it long for years, then short for years, now I'm growing it out again to cut off and give to the "Locks of Love" program to make a wig for cancer patients.

The hairstyle is "window dressing" for the woman wearing it.

The right woman sporting a maroon mohawk, spiked to the moon would be more attractive to me than the latest Playboy centerfold (unless she was the aforementioned).

I like hair. I think we should be proud of our mammalian heritage.

I definitely do not buy this notion that long hair doesn't look good on older women. A big proud mane of gray hair is a glorious thing.

(I wear my own hair shoulder-length, because it refuses to grow any longer, and usually tied back in a big frizzy ponytail.)

my shoulder. I love my hair, especially in the summer when it get curly. It can get a bit wild-looking on occasion, but I'll never be mistaken for a tightly-coiffed Rethuglican.

I've never wanted flat, straight hair, although it does suit some women.

I am very curious, though, why straight hair is (apparently) so attractive to men...

49. Depends on the woman
my wife has very high cheekbones, so I love it when she cuts her hair short.

however, she has a friend that looks much better when she wears her long her down because of the shape of her face. It's almost like 2 different people - the mommy with her hair up, and then the sexy businesswoman with her hair down.

For the long-term, I guess I would prefer it a bit on the shorter side.

But truthfully, I'm 20 years older now, married for ten years, and I gotta say it--this blonde has more fun! OTOH, I think it's simply because it suits my coloring and overall style better.

58. Long and wavy
is probably the style that I generally find the prettiest, but different styles look good on different women. Some women look great with any hair style, some I admire as people and could care less what their hair looks like, etc. At the same time, hair does tend to be a feature I notice, and I have had several instances where it was the feature that really made me find a woman attractive. Kinda weird, I guess, but true.
