What Do You Have Stockpiled... You Know... Just For "Emergencies"?
(Or... just because it was on sale at Costco.)

Toilet paper? Bottled water? Powdered baby formula?

Tuna? Pasta? Disposable diapers?

Lemon meringue pie?

Condoms?

And NO-o-o-o-o that's NOT my list of stockpiled stuff (okay... we do have too much toilet paper). But other than that... it's just some ideas to get you started.

I almost included it but didn't want to sound *too* weird, lol! Over the past several months, there have been at least 4 different occasions where I needed crushed or diced tomatoes and all I can find are 20+ small cans of tomato paste! This is what happens when I don't go to the store with a list. It probably wouldn't be too bad if I didn't shop at Costco. :D

Ex-husband smoked cigarettes and pipes for forty out of his 70 years.

On March 23, 2006, his 70th birthday, he found out he was riddled with cancer.

Four to six months to live.

If you smoke, please give up that lousy habit if you possibly can.

In peace,

29. I have 10,000 gallons of tap water stored away
in gallon jugs in the cellar. We have lost power so many times and the issue has never been food, or heat, or medicine or entertainment....the only issue has been the toilet.
Everytime I buy a jug of bottled water, I fill it up and store it downstairs.

I think I may have some type of illness. And yes I am exaggerating, but I bet I have at least 50 gallons on hand.

31. I was just thinking about this today.
All this talk about nuking Iran has made me wonder once more if I need a stockpile and an escape plan. I accidently wandered onto a message board last weekend that encouraged everyone to have monthly "preps"--stuff that one would need in an emergency. Each month you add a little more so that you don't have to buy everything at once. I live in the city but have access to family property out in the middle of nowhere about an hour from here. It would be a good place to crash if something happened in the city, but I have no supplies other than my truck to live out of.

As for me, right now I keep a pretty full pantry of canned goods and some stuff in the freezer. Even though I live alone, you never know when something might happen or you run out of money before payday. And after my last bout of unemployment, I have a thing about running out of anything--it's kinda obsessive. When I use something, it gets replaced immediately. But as for water and that kind of thing, I don't have anything saved up other than some water to use to flush the toliets if the water goes out.

I think I might start collecting some stuff--it wouldn't hurt, that's for sure. I also plan to start stashing a little cash, just in case.

Don't mind the tinfoil hat . . . . :tinfoilhat:

44. Well, I DO have enough shelving for a lot of things --
My husband went out to Home Depot and dutifully put up an IMMENSE amount of shelving.

Now, I need to take the time to go shopping for the STUFF to put on the SHELVES.

Don't need condoms -- way past that stuff (Um, FYI he had a vasectomy 90 days after we married with five kids...)

No diapers. No incontinence, at least today.

I hate canned fish or meat (too fatty and salty).

Except for water and toilet paper, I guess I'll "wing it..."

54. Judging by our newly combined pantry...pasta.
Dear lord.

We have four pounds of long pasta in unopened boxes, probably three pounds of long pasta in opened boxes, three pounds of penne, and SIX one-pound boxes of elbow macaroni. Plus about 4 ounces of alphabet noodles, two half-used bags of multi-colored shaped pasta (one spiral, one shells), plus two boxes of couscous.

We also don't need any more shelf-stable soy milk or canned tuna.

56. Not really a stockpiler, just a Costco shopper on occasion...
Currently, we have:

*About a month's worth of toilet paper
*About six months' worth of paper towels
*About a year's worth of coffee (hey, I don't drink it very much, and I had too many Gevalia shipments around Christmas! This was not on purpose!)--that might be a couple months' worth to someone who drinks a lot of it
*About two weeks' worth of bottled water

There are two adults and no children in my household, so we could manage just fine on these supplies. :)

This is the San Francisco Red Cross - Citizens Corps - Fire Department - Office of Emergency Service Link ---

-- This is earthquake country - and we're do for a big one.

Two additional things --

1. You can be darn sure cell phone circuits will be dead - they run on transmitters, repeaters, routers --- all of which run off of electric power from the electric grid -- and the cell towers are connected by the telephone land lines. Two points of vulnerability.
Get the "No Morse Code" Technician Class Ham Radio License --- and a ham radio--

2. Get yourself a backup generator - like a solar cell--
