Poll question: What, exactly, *was* Leo Sayer?
There was a thread about him the other day. That, in itself, is remarkable.

More than remarkable, however, is Leo Sayer himself.

Where did he come from? Where did he go?

I know he existed, because he recorded a horrible version of "On Broadway" with Gary Numan. I've seen the video, and it's true.

So what was Leo Sayer, exactly...?

3. He makes me feel like dancing!
"And I think I can dance, I think I can dance..."

Leo pretty much dropped off the face of the planet, didn't he? (And sadly, I was thinking the same about Gene Pitney a few weeks ago too).

7. I first found out about it here on DU (probably in LBN)
I didn't hear or see anything about his death on the news, though.

19. Watch out!
He'll put on his high heels and kick your butt. He's done it to me!

Call him "funny" or say anthing about Canadians and you'll pay.

Just a warning and yes, I made it up. Well the high heels thing, not the butt kicking thing...

Khash.

9. Damnit, you guys made me buy that Leo Sayer album on Sunday
I wasn't really into the shopping mode for records, just a quick stop since I was passing by heading home from picking up a few groceries (I was sick all day on Friday & Saturday).

And there it was - you made me buy it. The pressure was too much

14. He's the biggest earworm infection EVER
Just the mention of his name, or the site of a fuzzy afro starts all his songs merged together bumping round in my head. I hate him for that.

15. heh heh
When i need you
I just close my eyes and i'm with you
And all that i so want to give you
It's only a heartbeat away

When i need love
I hold out my hands and i touch love
I never knew there was so much love
Keeping me warm night and day

Miles and miles of empty space in between us
The telephone can't take the place of your smile
But you know i won't be travelin' forever
It's cold out, but hold out, and do i like i do
When i need you
I just close my eyes and i'm with you
And all that i so wanna give you babe
It's only a heartbeat away

It's not easy when the road is your driver
Honey that's a heavy load that we bear
But you know i won't be traveling a lifetime
It's cold out but hold out and do like i do
Oh, i need you

When i need love
I hold out my hands and i touch love
I never knew there was so much love
Keeping me warm night and day

When i need you
I just close my eyes
And you're right here by my side
Keeping me warm night and day

I just hold out my hands
I just hold out my hand
And i'm with you darlin'
Yes, i'm with you darlin'
All i wanna give you
It's only a heartbeat away
Oh i need you darling

25. His song "The Dancer" is terrific.
We actually did a bluegrass version of that years ago. Don't laugh; it wasn't bad.
