List something Uncool about yourself
We all love to brag about how cool we are. What's lame about you?

I'll go first....I love Lifetime made-for-tv movies, "Mother, May I Sleep With Danger", being my all-time favorite.

82. Hey, me too!
When I was a kid around 5 years old a Casper cartoon was on where he had this little kit fox he played with. So cute, Casper would go through doors and the fox would bang his head, etc. One day the mean ole British in their red hunting outfits with white horses and those dogs chased the little fox to death and Casper cried and I did too, so much so my mom came out to see what was the matter. Well, just then the a little ghost fox floated out of the dead fox and he and Casper played forever.

Saw an animated movie (yep, a cartoon) some years back about a brother and little sister living in a cave in Japan after THE BOMB was dropped. The brother was always looking for food and would give most of it to his sister. Sometimes he couldn't find anything. One day he found some food and was running happily toward the cave to give it to his little sister but she took one bite and died in the end. Cry, rivers flowing. My husband ran in to see why and I just blubbered. No ghost here.

Abba is one of the best artists in fact.

In music overall, music snobbery is just not my thing. Not that I can't be picky - and some of my choices are hip - but music snobbery is a pet peeve of mine.

I don't like Abba, I hate to camp, and I only go to thrift stores when I have to, but I sunburn so badly I have to wear SPF 50+. Actually, it's kept me from having sun-damaged skin, and on my last checkup, my doctor said I have the skin of a 30-year-old---I'm 42/going on 43. :) I guess our uncool curse can be somewhat of a blessing after all.

I think it's slovenly for people to go to the office wearing flip-flops -- unless they had a foot injury, for example, and can't wear shoes. I even use the word "slovenly."

And whoever you are, male or female, even if you do household repairs, I don't want to see your underwear or yards of naked skin while you're on the job. Put on some clothes and tuck in your shirts, and save the tattoo display for Saturday or quitting time.

I believe adults should agree on how to address each other, not automatically use the first name. I'm pleased to report medical professionals appear to do this.

And the response to "Thank you" is not "No problem." It's "You're welcome."

LOVE your inner curmudgeon!

41. I agree on addressing each other
For the most part, I don't go by my first name (because I don't like it :) ), but I dislike the common nickname for it even more, and throughout school and even recently when I had to renew my driver's license, people just automatically shortened my first name without even asking me what I prefer to be called.

I've even tried to break myself of it, but I always revert back to it. I can use "you're welcome" in more formal situations and I have a decent vocabulary. "No problem" just sticks with me. I also say "dude" relatively often and I apply it to all genders.

218. Duckie, there is so much of that going around.
I remember seeing people wearing shorts and tank tops to Mass at the Newman Center (this is back in the '80s). Nowadays, almost anything goes (Cue Cole Porter).

The biggest shock was the lower back tattoo I glimpsed on a woman rising from the pew to go to communion. As she stood up, there was her lower back, bold as brass.

And using expressions like "bold as brass" is also pretty uncool of me.

Gee. I wonder if it really is.

Still I think the Fuzzyslippers movie chain thread has a much higher post count. A lot of threads have higher post counts.

Somebody said that NSMA had some "I lost my keys" thread in Ask the Administrators that was the longest running thing ever. I'm sad I missed that thread. It probably only died because the Administrators killed the Ask the Administrators room. I don't know. I never read that room.

Anyway, you just used the salute smiley, and that's pretty fuckin' dorky. Again, I applaud your achievement. You just don't stop!

even in public, when we say something the other one's been thinking or if we say the same thing at the same time. Just this weekend we were eating dinner with some friends and one of them said something that caused us both to yell 'oh my ga-ed' like John Travolta in the South Park episode about Tom Cruise in the closet. That was a high-five moment to top all high-five moments! What made it even better was the fact that no one around us had a clue what was so funny about it.

I hope we never grow up!

I actually own the US version on Cotillion records (Atlantic's Prog label) from the early 70s. "Tarkus" is still my favorite of theirs and their best by far. The rest of it is pretty wanky X(

I have no defense for owning "Love Beach". I plead temporary insanity.

Hmm, it apppears Keith Emerson enjoyed carrying his lunch around in his trousers back then.

129. Doctor! This man needs 10cc's of cool, stat!
I have three seasons of "thirtysomething" on vhs and watch them...

I've got a major crsh on a married girl I work with...

When my single friends called me last Fri night to go out to the bars, I lied so stay home and watch the last five episodes of Lost on DVD.

On my way to work, I listen to DCI (marching band) music.

Some friends and I play Neverwinter Nights (a dungeon and dragons-like game) on the computer every third Saturday night... I bailed on date so I wouldn't miss one session a few months back.

Doctor! This man needs 10cc's of cool, stat!

Prius owners get pretty geeky - noticing all other Priuses on the road. Comparing the five minute split MPGs. And other ways of being a bit... odd. So while I think driving a Prius is cool - I think many Prius drivers (self-included) get so into it that we become a bit annoying/obnoxious. just.can't.help.myself.

175. I'm going out on a limb here, but there are two things about me...
...that are pretty damn uncool. First, I'm a science fiction geek. I used to get a lot of weird looks that said, "YOU'RE a science fiction geek???", like I needed to look nerdy and wear black horn-rimmed glasses held together by tape or something. Not so! "Regular" people can be SF fans too! :) In fact, I met my first love at my first SF convention in 1980.

Second, if there is any chance I can fall down or trip and look idiotic, it will happen. My husband calls me Grace (like calling a bald guy Curly). :P

My sister and I even text-message each other about them, if one of us is watching a good one and thinks the other should get warned about it. We're different as night & day, but we've laid in bed watching Lifetime movies together too many times to declare us cool.

On edit: We also watch the movies on WE (Women's Entertainment) and LOGO, the gay channel. My sister's straight but she said it best with, "I don't care if the characters are gay or straight. I just want to watch some cheesy drama." Logo is good for that when they show old made-for-tv movies about AIDS and such.

229. Yeah, I'm on better meds but I am scared to death of the pain coming back
Every step I take (which are literally baby steps, by the way), I pray will not lead to a muscle spasm. When I do get muscle spasms now, they are much less intense, but they still scare me. I cannot go back to the pain I had on Tuesday. I just can't.
I will be having a long conversation with my neurosurgeon tomorrow at my follow-up visit. I have written out a list of things that I'm concerned about and things that I'm angry about (in particular his receptionist who talks to me like I'm 2-years-old).

Thanks for asking, though. Your advice really has been helpful. Now I'm off to bed once again. :hi:

I've got another consult with my surgeon on Tuesday. We're discussing the possibility of further surgeries. Like you, I'm terrified of having to deal with that kind of pain returning. But I really don't want to be on painkillers forever, and the epidurals only seem to work for a couple of weeks at most.

Anyway, hope you kicked ass at your appointment. You deserve better treatment than they've been providing you.
