My Baby Has A Brain!
I posted last Monday that we went in for an Ultrasound because my wife had passed a clot and was bleeding red at 10.5 weeks. We didn't expect to see a baby, but there it was with a heartbeat. Then the doctor came in and told us the brain and cranium didn't look right and that she wanted us to come back in today to confirm it. She said that based on what she was seeing she would call it non-viable but wanted to wait a week since we were so early, and it couldn't hurt. She painted a bleak picture though. The chances of the baby being fine were slim.

Well guess the fuck what!

My baby has a brain. My baby has a brain. Hi ho the derry o, my baby has a brain!

Everything is fine. Everything is there. Brain. Skull. The whole nine. They don't know what the problem was with the last scan. Bad angle. Bad physics on the part of the ultrasound machine. Who knows. The baby is fine though.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Thanks for all those lending support. 1 Trimester down, 2 to go.

Oh and this baby is grounded till they're 18 for scaring the fuck out of his mother and me.

7. Week From Hell
I never truly felt 'dread' before this. We thought we were going in to get a confirmation that we would have to choose whether or not to end the life of our child. Talk about a shitty week. I'm fucking glad it's over.

I am so happy for you and your wife and baby. How terrible that you spent the week in such agony.

16. Well he's got a heart
175 beats a minute or something like that. All good. Courage....I think check. He grew a brain and skull in the span of a week. Beat that for scrappyness.

Trip to Kansas...well that'll have to wait. :)

so it was a very sad shower. Of course a week later they said the baby was fine. AARRRGH!

Yay! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Just out of curiosity, did they say anything about the clot that was passed? Any theories on why that happened? I'm just so freakin' relieved everything is ok! How's your wife? I would be an emotional wreck after that roller coaster. Poor thing must be relieved and exhausted.

20. Could have been many things
It seems like so much about pregnancy is a mystery still to medical science. Maybe because people are rightfully hesitant to experiment on pregnant women...

I've heard lots of possibilities. The one that makes the most sense to me, which means it's probably not what happened, is that she had a cyst on her uterus. The inital brown spotting was from the implantation, and the later spotting and clot were actually the cyst breaking free, bleeding, and then no more. She's had no bleeding for over a week now. No bleeding. Healthy baby with everything looking correct so far...I hope we've actually turned a corner and nothing with be as horrifying any more.

My wife is good. We're both very emotional still. It has been the most insane roller coaster the past couple of months, and this past week in particular that final horrifying drop....only to level off again or pull into the station when we thought we were about to crash into the earth....I think she's more exhausted than she realizes. Her whole body is going to just relax at some point and she'll pass out on the sofa is my bet.
