So, my family is suing my grandpa's nursing home & they want to settle
I guess that is a good thing. I hope the settlement is worth the shit he has gone through! He lost 65 lbs, broke his hip TWICE (their fault), almost starved to death b/c he wasn't able to eat his food (which is why he lost 65 lbs. in 3 mos. might I add) He got a feeding tube put in which is surgical procedure. Any surgical procedure on a health compromised 86 year old is major and they
(the nurses) ripped it out the day he got back into the hospital. Carried him across the street in a wheel chair to the hospital in 40 degree weather while he had pneumonia and sepsis! The list goes on and on and on and on...I hope we will be able to get him private care with this settlement.

1. Wow... That's Unbelievable!!

So many BAD things keep happening to you, or people you know! Nothing personal... but you know... I'm glad I don't know you personally.

2. that sucks Shell
My father is involved in a workmans comp suit right now. He was an electrician for 40 years and has major back problems now. They tried to give him a small cash settlement but he wants them to pay all future medical bills for his condition.

Hope it works out for your family.

3. Oh friggin Hell!
I hope you nail them to the wall and get a huge settlement.

I hope your grandfather is doing well now. I hope you've consided counceling so he can talk about what was done to him. There are repercussions from that kind of treatment.

I hope the settlement pays for very good quality care from now on.

That poor man...
Can you imagine how many other people are getting slowly starved and abused in that place?

6. Well, let me clarify one thing here, he is on a medication for
life that dries up the throat. They were feeding him, but weren't seeing that he ate it. He couldn't swallow it. They didn't pay enough attention. IT wasn't until my mom took him to the doctor that his weight had become a major issue. We knew he was shrinking, but we had NO idea he had lost SOOO much weight. They, at the nursing home, played dumb. Even though there was to always be a nurse with him when he ate b/c the medication causes choking (since it dries the throat so much). But thanks!! The nursing home just got through settling a $4,000,000 suit.

7. Holy crap!
I hope they are shell out some MAJOR $$$$. They are probably scared that if this went to trial, a jury would hand them their ass on platter.

Good luck and best wishes for dad.

12. Thanks!! I know that some of these people go into this profession
with love and care in their hearts, but some of them lose it along the way. And I know that is a tough tough job to have, but this is people's lives.

Arrgh!! Thanks, though! I got off on a small rant!
