Have you seen that new show on HBO, "Big Love," about the polygamist
family? Bill Paxton plays the husband of these three women who also have their own set of kids. I watched it for the first time tonight and it was pretty freaky.

2. was it the episode where he was sneaking around with one of the wives
in hotel rooms? It was the most bizarre thing I've ever watched.

3. Yes it was that episode. What was up with that? Strange show, even
for HBO.

4. When she said, "I feel like we are having an affair," and then he played
that song "I wanna feel what love is," or something like that, I thought :wtf:

Do you think those who really practice polygamy go to hotel rooms and play Journey (was that song by Journey?)

I like Bill Paxton and that's the only reason I watched it as long as I did.

12. The story about that....
he was sneaking around with wife #1. They were married for quite a long time before any other wives entered the picture. She had cancer (i think) and was unable to have more children, so her oldest daughter (16ish) thinks she let him have another wife to have more kids. He grew up in a polygamist conclave, and his second wife came from there.

Anyway, this episode I think was trying to show that he was falling for her again, the same as when they first met, and maybe he was regretting going the polygamy route.

8. I've been watching it and enjoying it
It needs some tweaking but then again I thought the same thing about Six Feet Under but stuck it out and was rewarded with one of the best shows ever on television.

If anything, it's some of the periphreal characters on that show that make it worth watching. Harry Dean Stanton is a stand out as the creepy leader of the compound (a man who has had like 30 wives). But the story that really has intrigue me is that girl who plays Stanton's 15 year old wife. I don't know her name but she was also the evil girl from the Ring movies. She looks like she's gonna break away from the family and raise amok.

If anything, I find the show taking a poke at extremist in religion. Outside of the Polgamy you get hints about some other extremist ideas and I'd like to see them develop that even more

9. I LOVE IT!
Been watching since the first episode last month, it is a well written and acted show. This is the polygamist dilemma for me. While polygamy in practice is most often the Roman's commune sort, there are normal polygamists like Bill and his wives. They don't force their children to be polygamists, nor do they kick out their sons. They don't condone the rape of minors nor do they abuse their children. They are adults making a decision about their marriage, and who am I to judge them. I find the practice so distasteful, yet when it is practices by basically good people, it makes me wonder if I should be upset about this. Anyway, the mark of a good HBO show is that it makes you think a lot, and HBO has succeeded.

14. got to see it on an HBO free weekend, and was very intrigued
I call it the Mormon soap opera, but it is quite well done.

The point about the peripheral characters is well taken, too...the business partner who is taking a 4th wife is so spot on of my mental image of a typical Mormon man, don't know why he just is.

And Roman of the conclave is one bonafide creepazoid. Just David Koresh with a slightly more mainstream theology. Bruce Dern as the father is a total hoot, but then he always is.

I'll be renting it when the DVD comes out.

13. So how long do you think
wife #2 can keep her shopaholic's bills from the rest of the clan, i.e. "Bosslady"?

I enjoy the show too and I admit it was Bill Paxton that bulled me in.

15. I haven't been watching it, but

I caught a few moments of it last week after watching Sopranos. It was intriguing enough that I think I might start watching. The acting in the scene I saw was pretty good.

I'm waiting for the mini-series on Elizabeth I to start. I can't wait.
