3. eHarmony is run by a right wing fundy nutbag.
They do not allow for same sex couples at all.

2. I've tried it, and wasn't impressed
It seemed to me that there were women that were desperate to find someone, and then there were party girls, and nothing really in between.

4. If that's what you feel
you need to do, then do it.
I'm never done it myself but two of my sisters' friends met their husbands on-line.
Don't know which site though.
Good luck.

And we've been together for 6 1/2 years and have been married since October. I love him more and more every day. He's my best friend. I got really lucky.

12. My aunt met her boyfriend on match.com
they dated for about a year, but then broke up. Granted, not a success story, but they got along great; careers started to get in the way for both of them

13. A friend of mine met her husband through an online dating
service. I say give it a try. You aren't obligated to actually meet someone if you don't want to, but you never know -- you just might find "the one".

(which is okay, I've gathered that site is a repuke site... I couldn't match their personality profile test... eharmony.com?)

Or maybe it's just nobody local that works out...

37. I tried it too, awhile ago, several times.

Worst. Idea. EVER.

Whoa Nelly's experience was mine as well. The guys were not at all who they claimed to be. Total losers/players. So I gave up on that strategy.

With respect to e-harmony, I almost tried them before I found out it was a fundie site. But one of the Bubbas they sent to me as a potential "match" made, in his introduction, the most sexist comment one can imagine. And it didn't at all appear to be made as a joke. I mean I made it clear in my profile or whatever to them that I wanted someone who would see me as an equal and a partner. So I stopped going to the site before I had to pay anything. They actually called me up to find out why they weren't getting my business. I told them about the dude and said sh!t, if I want to meet guys like that alls I have to do is hang around Hooters at closing time on a weekend. :eyes:

On the other hand, my sister knows a few women who have had very good luck w dating sites, so... I would say it's worth a try, but don't expect miracles.

18. why the hell not indeed!
my husband and i met online and we have been married 7 years now.

just use the same sense you would in so-called "real life" and remember that the anonymity of the internet allows one to, yes, be a pretend person, but also offers the opportunity to be completely who you are.

good luck!

They were all married.

I'd rather they all be "Taken" as in the SciFi miniseries. Then maybe I'd get some peace around here.

38. I met my husband
through a personal ad. Didn't do the internet thing-though years ago I talked to a few people on the phone through AOL chat rooms. My best advice-do it-don't expect anything, and keep trying. It might take years-it did for me. I met local celebrities and a couple of people I was friends with for years-back in the days before the internet. It was all actual-gasp-letters then. By the time I met my husband it was just a voice mail. I liked his voice. Stay local. Long distance is probably never going to work. (And I honestly can't imagine being "matched"-randomness is the magic of the universe)
