Oh Danny boy,
The pipes, the pipes are calling!

I just always wanted to say that.

1. I detested that song until I saw it sung in the movie "Ghost."
With Virginia Madsen (oh, yes) and Tommy Lee Jones (can't go wrong on a movie if he's in it).

Highly recommended. Go rent it.

2. "Miller's Crossing" has a nice scene where this is playing mournfully in
the background, if I recall.

4. Sang that in a Tokyo karoke bar at the audience's request.
In there with two guys from my airline crew.
(We were the only round-eyes in the bar.)
Maybe I look Irish, I dunno.

I had sung something else, to a nice reception.
I'm pretty good, actually, and I like to sing.

A middle aged Japanese man sent three beers to our table and, after a few minutes, came over.
"Excuse me. Would you please sing "Danny Boy"?
Sure.

I had enough Asahis under my belt to achieve the "total ham" point, and REALLLLLY laid on the Irish brogue for the song.
Afterwards, the man came up and thanked me. He had tears in his eyes.
Go figure.
:-)
