Sad, yet wonderful...
My sister-in-law went to hear my brother's band play last weekend at an American Legion Hall where they perform on a regular basis. She went up to these two women (ages 80-something and 90) who were sitting at the bar drinking and smoking, and encouraged them to get up and dance. So they did...less energetically than some; but no less enjoyably.

When the song was done, they walked back to the bar, and the 90 year old woman fell down and died. There was an emergency-tech there who tried to do CPR; but it was of no use. She apparently suffered a massive stroke.

My sister-in-law is pretty freaked right now, feeling she was somehow responsible; but I'm thinking the woman was probably going to have the stroke regardless of the dance. She was driving...she could have died while she was on the road, and injured someone else. Or she could have been sitting there and died at the bar.

I'm sorry she's gone, and that people will undoubtedly miss her; but part of me can't help rejoicing that the old lady had a last dance before she went.:loveya:

3. I'm not sure...
I'll have to ask.
It'd be seriously ironic if it was Donna Summer "Last Dance", eh?

6. Even more ironic if it was "I've had the time of my life"
that is sad, yet not so sad. I want to go out that way.

5. I'm with you, Goddess.
That's not a bad way to go. I feel bad for your sister-in-law, though.

9. I'm hoping she'll soon realize that she gave the woman a great gift
By taking the trouble to notice her sitting there; and by inspiring her to boogie.

13. I knew a woman whose father played sax
He was performing at a wedding party, had everyone on their feet and dancing, and finished to wild applause...then fell face forward in the wedding cake and died. She said it was exactly how he would have wanted to go.

Smoking and drinking at 90, then cut out instantly? Sounds good to me. Here's to that lady.

14. I'm with you. It's sad, but hey, she went out dancing.
She had a good run and went out doing something really joyful. How sweet.

Blessings to her on her journey...:loveya:

15. That lady lived it all right up the end!
Great story! And you're right...she could have been on the road.

Have always thought would go out in my sleep...but I like the idea of dancing right before my number's up...

Hope your SIL is not too freaked out.
