"The Simpsons" movie confirmed (July 27, 2007)
http://www.nowplayingmag.com/content/view/3457/2/

In a surprising move, confirmation that a Simpsons movie is in fact in the pipeline came today in the form of a brief teaser trailer running with Fox’s new release Ice Age: The Meltdown. It’s the rare case of Hollywood managing to outfox the gossip hounds of geekdom.

Reuters has the report, adding that the clip peg’s the film’s release date as July 27, 2007. The teaser is described by the news service as such: “The animated 25-second clip opens on a giant superhero S. ‘Leaping his way onto the silver screen,’ intones a narrator, ‘the greatest hero in American history!’ Cut to Homer Simpson sitting on his couch in his tighty whities. ‘I forgot what I was supposed to say,’ he says. The narrator continues, ‘The Simpsons Movie, coming to the screen, July 27, 2007.’ ‘Uh, oh,’ says Homer, ‘we better get started.’”

1. Well, I guess you could make a trailer the moment you thought of it
Which sounds like about what they did. :)

No way it would take that crew more than a year to make a feature-length animation. I expect they really haven't started. :D

2. Well, I certainly hope they saved their A-material for the film
Because the last season sucked horribly.

4. Yep, and it's mostly due to the show becoming a "cause of the week"
Sorry, but the majority of the people who watch the Simpsons don't do so for partisan political insight.

The show's writers have tried to jam some overtly political statements into the show every week for the last couple of years. The problem becomes that the humor (and there's been very little in the show lately) is forced to become subservient to the cause and this batch of writers doesn't have the talent to make the pieces blend into a whole.

3. I'm trying to get excited, but...
What are they going to do in a 90-minute movie that they haven't done in 8000-some minutes of prime time TV?
