I absolutely WILL NOT jump on the White Sox bandwagon.
Look.

I like the White Sox, and of course, they won it all last year. But I'm a true blue National Leaguer at heart and it's gonna take a lot more than just winning the World Series to get me to jump from being a Cubs Fan to a Sox Fan.

Sure, the Sox have a great squad full of team players who are unselfish and will sacrifice to win. The Sox also have really cool uniforms and a manager who declined to go to the White House and meet with Bush following their World Series win.

But even though I was born just 7 miles from Sox Park, and am a Southside Boy...I just can't throw my allegience behind an American League team. The DH has tainted the game and until the it's outlawed, I guess I will remain a Cubs fan, and only a Cubs fan.

Go Cubs Go.

9. No question on who to root for...
The Astros, of course. How hard is that? :)

10. And that goes for teams that play indoors too.
They are an abomination.

17. Spend one night sitting outside in Houston
for 3 or 4 hours and you'll change that opinion real fast, or at least grant the Astros a waiver. They do keep the roof open for as long they can during the year, which isn't long, but they also tend to open it in the later innings, even during the summer.

18. I lived in Houston for 6 years.
They don't deserve a team anyway.

Besides, St. Louis doesn't play indoors and it gets much hotter in St. Louis.

19. sigh...
Hotter than Houston? Are you sure you lived in Houston Texas? did you go outside? at night? with mosquito's the size of Winnebagos?

and why doesn't Houston deserve a baseball team? Chicago is the place where they blame their National League failures on 1) a freaking goat and 2) a fan who caught a foul ball that Big Mo Alou had no chance at. Give it up. The Sox are the only chance Chicago has at a winner. Stick with the AL where you might have a chance once every hundred years (without cheating).

21. It rarely cracks 100 in Houston. Sure it's humid but....
Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 02:55 PM by XNASA
In St. Louis it's regularly is over 100 and the Cardinals fans are always in the Top 3 in attendance despite the fact that they play outdoors. Outdoors, the way it's meant to be.

As far as backing a winner, it's not about that. It's mostly about the DH. I'd rather back a mediocre team with no DH, than back a winner that plays with a DH. Of course, I live in a city with 2 teams, at least I have a choice. So that's easy for me to say.

(The mosquitos in Houston were the least of my problems. Fire ants, water moccasins, air pollution and some of the worst drivers in the country were at the top of my list of things to fear.) ;)

22. two words...
heat index. I lived in Houston for over 20 years. It's freakin hot, plus the bugs, plus hurricanes/tropical storms/depressions, plus regular Spring tornados and floods. It's got to be the only place with a domed stadium that's had a rainout at said stadium (in addition to the cancellation of a Paul Simon concert).

My view on the DH is that if you grew up in an AL city, and were an AL fan all your life, then the DH is ok. Baseball is baseball. You might as well rail against t-ball. Watch and enjoy the game without judgement. Good pitching always beats good hitting, and vice versa (see?).

13. I fully understand
but the fact that the White Sox got shafted by sports media last year has me pulling for them. But for me, who isn't that into baseball, it isn't hard to switch allegiences

24. That's why I'm still a Cardinals fan after all these years.
I only spent less that 2 years of my life downstate (in IL). But E. St. Louis is my dad's home town. He passed Cardinals fanhood to me. I've lived over 1/2 my life in Texas, so you'd think I'd have picked up the Astros or Rangers, but nope. Not that I have a dislike for either team, I generally want them to win, except when they play my team, but I'll alwyas be a Cards fan first. I can't stand a fair weather fan.
