24! **Spoilers**
Edited on Mon Apr-03-06 08:57 PM by YellowRubberDuckie
What the heck!?
The President?! :wow:
And I hate that DHS woman. She's an idiot, and doesn't know when she's being played. She's just power hungry.
What do you think about the show right now?

I smelled a vice presidential red herring from teh word go.

Besides, the Prez looks too much like that oily little turd Dick Nixon.

Still in the dark about a lot of stuff. Missed last nights. Spoilers dont bother me. So the Pres. is implicated.... I wonder to what extent and exactly how.

31. I did too, until the VP told Logan
about Palmer's visit. Since Palmer's story to the VP didn't indicate an expectation to see the president, Logan shouldn't have been asking the VP so much about it - it's not as if the VP's questions would have unmasked a lie anyway. At that point it was clear that Logan was the dick.

34. What about Mike?
The Chief of Staff was nowhere to be seen last between 10:00 and 11:00.

One is tempted to read an Andy Card parallel, but of course they film the episodes in advance, so it's not as if they could whip up and incorporate a brand new plot in the space of a few days.

38. Wasn't Mike on the wrong side of the palace coup?
Was it season two? I can't keep them straight.

But didn't he work to dethrone Palmer for being incompetent to address the crisis? Mike's motives were nominally pure and for the benefit of the country, but Henderson also claims to be working for the country...

40. Ugh, now I have to look into this.
You're right about the coup, I believe. I didn't even think about that. Mike just wasn't on my radar.

You may well be right about both Mike and Henderson, but I'm not so sure Henderson isn't yet. Logan can't possibly be this much of an asshole - what if Henderson and Logan really are doing something right and simply hadn't counted on Jack being this capable? After all, when this was hatched - whatever it is - Logan had to think Jack was dead...

Just a thought.

7. So we are seeing the plot line for the fascist take over of America
The White House manipulates terrorists attacks in order to scare the citizenry into submission to martial law.

Wonder where the writers got that idea?

I was *npt* expecting this. We've gotten so used to thinking of Logan as a well-meaning weakling that they were able to sucker-punch us with this. I was really shocked--this was the best surprise ending of any 24 episode yet...and God help them all now...

20. Plot hole?
I just inferred that Cummings was kept in the dark as to the identity of the mastermind.

During the confrontation, Logan rightly played dumb so that Cummings, who was visibly about to go critical, wouldn't be able to implicate the Pres.

51. I'm still not buying it (the story telling, that is)
It reminds me of uhhh, last season. The Rube Goldberg approach to terrorism. I just get the feeling that the writers are making it up as they go along. It's like they're using writers on loan from LOST.

Some things the writers need to explain:

If POTUS really is the evil genius, then who was Walt conspiring with? Henderson?

How do Henderson and Logan know each other?

What are their goal? A nerve agent attack on Russia or the U.S.? Either? Both?

How did the hobbit's sister's boyfriend come into contact with the terrorists?

When did the bad guys know that Jack was alive and available to be framed for Palmer's assassination.

I'm still peeved over a NG that can be defeated merely by holding one's breath. If that was the case, why didn't everyone in the CTU safe rooms simply hold their breath and walk out of the building?

12. Amazing episode.
I had always pegged VP Gardner as the culprit, partly because of the "evil" quality of Ray Wise's face and the fact that he was pushing hard for martial law.

Also, I have a theory about President Logan -- this is not a spoiler, since I don't have any info and hate spoilers, but if you don't want to read something that MIGHT actually happen later on in the season, DO NOT read ahead.

It also ties in to something that happened last season, so if you haven't seen the previous season, also please STOP READING.

I think President Logan had something to do with Air Force One being shot down last season, when President Keeler was onboard.

Keeler is dead, and Logan, I believe was his running mate, so the idea doesn't seem too farfetched.

23. Ray Wise was an excellent bit of casting
No one who's seen Twin Peaks can ever wholly separate Ray Wise from Bob, no matter what role he plays subsequently.

And his unctuous exchange with Wayne Palmer just sealed the deal. It was "obvious" that the VP was putting on a show of sympathy, so it was "obvious" that the VP was an evil, scheming bastard.

Very well done!

And that was a great guess re: the theoretical spoiler!

*-Cheney dynamic, I loved the exchange between Jack and Wayne Palmer, when Wayne was trying to convince Jack to let him assist on the rescue mission to get the little girl back. Wayne said, "I was in the Marines, Jack" and Jack says, "I know - but you never saw combat".

17. The actress playing Audrey was good last night...
Show of hands: How many wanted her to wad up that agreement, and force-feed it to the DHS assistant guy? I totally expected her, at the end of her rant defending Buchanan, to say "And you are a despicable human being".

That DHS weasel guy has to die. I can live with DHS woman, since she at least has a teeny bit of compassion. But the guy is just plain evil.

I admit though, the sexual harassment twist last week was a surprise. For a second it gave me just one more reason to despise him.

(note to self: It's only a TV show, it's only a TV show...)

I think it was to signal that she suspects/accuses everyone of sexual harassment. Which (sadly) meant that DHS weasel guy was telling the truth.

But didn't you love the way Chloe spiked him, with "We need to focus on finding the 17 canisters of nerve gas, not worrying about protocol". SQUASH!

33. That's how I read it, sure
But the DHS guy is clearly a smarmy asshole, so we're in the bind of thinking that hey may have harassed her or she may have over-reacted.

It was a strange (well, strange on TV) complication to his character. If he harassed her, he becomes even more deplorable. But if her accusation is unfounded, then he becomes mildly sympathetic despite being a jerk.

Are they really that blind? Logan is so obviously a parody of Chimpy-- doesn't care if hundreds in a mall die--as long as it doesn't reflect badly on him, incompetent, blames everybody else, throws tantrums. He's even got a Veep who pulls his strings.

Are they series?

In review, only one or two FReeps make the Kerry connection directly to Logan but others run with it throughout the thread.

I haven't been able to find any threads dealing specifically with last night's twist but I'm sure it'll be a matter of time.

They've been big supporters of the show because of the WOT angle. I'm anticipating that they'll be calling all parties involved with the show godless American hating commies in a couple of days.

I even left out (from earlier in the season) that the canisters were to be the weapons of mass destruction to justify his "war in central Asia". I mean, geez, the guy is Chimpy personified!

But heck, most of the freepers still believe that Saddam was behind 9/11, and that all of his WMD's are still buried in the sand. So I guess something as obvious as Logan=Chimpy is too deep for them to grasp.
