Stormy early evening photos from here. (Dial-up warning)
We had a beautiful double rainbow at about 7 p.m. Thursday evening, and the light was so odd on our mountain that I shot some photos.

From the end of our street, facing northeast across Lago Maggiore.

Looking west down the street that runs through the woods near our house.

Looking northeast down our street, from the end of our driveway.

The rainbow and storm-light created an interesting area of light on the mountain just east of us.

7. Thanks!
Where are you in Switzerland? I spent a couple days hiking in the along the border with Germany and it was some of the most beautiful mountainous country I've ever seen! Now if you guys would just speak real German I'd be all set :P :hi:

11. Call Me Wesley and I live
in Ticino, the southernmost canton, about five minutes from the Italian border. Italian is the official language of our state, but German is Call Me Wesley's first language. (Swiss-German is a dialect, and it's not taught in the schools. Instead, kids in the German-speaking states learn "high German.") :hi:

5. That's a reflective sign.
It reflects our neighborhood's consensus that people should, "Walk your dang dog on a leash! This is _cat country_!"

Really, it's a "leash your dog" sign.

9. That's actually required here.
People are _supposed_ to carry those little plastic sacks and pick up their dogs' poop. We even have one of those "dog poop deposit" stations on our street.

8. Gorgeous!
You don't live in the Jura Mountains by chance, do you? I took in one of my watches for cleaning and repair. It's brand name is "JuraWatch". The repair guy told me it was made in the Jura Mountains quite a long time ago. :)

10. No, the state of Jura
is in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. We live in the Italian-speaking part, in Switzerland's southernmost state, Ticino.

Is it a good watch? Did you inherit it?

12. It is a good watch when I don't break the mainspring!
:spank::rofl:

It's a military-style wristwatch, round, probably from the 1940s. I actually bought it on eBay for next-to-nothing. Since it's not a "name" brand, it was cheap. The $100 I'll spend on it is worth it. I like things that have character.

My watch repair guy actually studied in Switzerland for a while. Apparently he is REALLY Rolex-certified. :D

16. Beautiful. I really miss Switzerland.
one of the most stunning sights I've ever witnessed was when I was traveling from Geneva from Italy by train and we rounded a mountain in the late afternoon to see Lake Lucerne , misty buy brightly illuminated by golden afternoon light. There were little sailboats and seagulls dotting it-bright white against the gold, blue ,silver and lavender. It just took my breath away!
