1. Holy Diver is not a guilty pleasure...
It is a pleasure in general.

8. This is really embarrassing - I'm glad I'm anonymous
and may I preface it by saying that I have been playing guitar (jazz, classical, blues, and rock) for well over 40 years and have studied jazz guitar under people like the great Ron Eschete and Horace Hatchett (all that to say I consider myself a serious lifelong student of music and I don't really consider myself a pop or commercial music kind of person).

But there are commercial and pop tunes that I find myself listening to and actually liking, although I won't admit it to others. One of my embarrassments actually and unbelievably are some of the tunes of the Monkees, like "Last Train To Clarksville" (ooooooh). I like ABBA's "Dancing Queen", Lipps' "Funky Town", and even (yes this is really embarrassing) the Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive". Even though I derided the Monkees when I was a young kid and was a Hendrix fan while the Monkees were popular, in looking back on them I think they actually had nice melodic tunes. And for some reason, I liked a lot of Disco, although I would never admit it to my jazz friends. I also liked some John Denver stuff, "Country Roads" for example and also a few Sinatra and Nat King Cole tunes. I even like tunes that a lot of people REALLY put down, like Heart's "These Dreams" (yeah, the one that plays 50 times a day on the easy listening stations).

I guess I happen to have a high tolerance for a lot of stuff, but I draw the line at "We Built This City".
