Italian food is one of my favorites. Unfortunately I have a touch of a problem with the Acid/Reflux, which is irritated by the tomato sauce, so when I indulge I have to keep the Zantac handy.

...the Kneale family, which is related to both the Irish O'Neills and Clan MacNeil of Scotland. Both are descendants of the Irish High King, Niall, but I'm not sure of the direct line of my family -- most likely we're Scots-Irish.

This, of course, only makes up 12.5% of my ancestry, but it's the only one I've been able to trace back more than a couple of generations.

Irish-Scottish-English. No Welsh, though. 1/4 Irish, 1/4 English, 1/2 Scottish. I didn't need to wear green on St. Paddy's Day, though I did--the red hair was enough. :)

My Scottish ancestors helped Bonnie Prince Charlie at one time--Flora MacDonald of Clan Ranald (my mom's people) hid him for a long time on the Isle of Skye.

On my dad's side, the Irish is from the Kennedy family. I don't know whether we're related in any way to the most famous Kennedys, though. However, both parents were not from abroad, but from Canada--Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

75. Yes. 100%
My mother was born in Donegal and my father's mother was born in Cork.

They emigrated to the U.S. in the early 20s - most to Boston, but one branch went to Florida (one great-uncle became the mayor of Tampa).

Although my mother was born in Ireland, she spent most of her childhood in Glasgow. Her accent was interesting to say the least.

80. My great-grandparents were all from Ireland..
and all the marriages(until my generation) have been with other Irish...so,as far as I know,Irish ancestry is all I have. No doubt there was some Viking, too, but that's going WAY back.

Yes, indeed, the non-Irish, or those who were not properly schooled by their parents or grandparents, look at me strange when I give the proper response to that greeting.

82. born & bred northern irish
Just a question, so dont get upset if this offends someone. But why do americans seem to have such a keen interest/obsession with where their parents/family came from?

It is one thing which ive always wondered about :dunce:

93. I am part Scots-Irish
Edited on Wed Mar-29-06 07:58 PM by Liberalynn
on my Dad's side. There is also some Italian on his side.

On my mother's side it is all Italian.

There seemed to be a history in our family of Irish marrying Italian.

Even though there's technically more Italian, I have the Irish coloring. The fair skin with freckles. I burn very eaisly in the sun.

102. Yes, and suffer Name Discrimination
Ever have anyone tell you it's not acceptable as is? Try having and Irish last name. The world's computers (especially those in airports) are NOT set up to deal with apostrophes.

My university couldn't decide whether a last name starting with O'D belonged in the "O" line or the "D" line at the bursar's office, so they varied it every semester. Fun.

REI can never find me. The airline computers "misplace" my reservation. "Did you try putting it in without an apostrophe? Okay, then it's probably under D."

After dealing with this for 40+ years, I am SO not hyphenating my name if SO and I ever marry. No WAY.
