Anyone want a Springer mix puppy?
Last week he ate one of my Doc Martens.

Saturday he DESTROYED my wallet.

Today I went out for lunch, came home, and logged on. About 10 minutes later I became aware of a ripping noise coming from the other room. I went into the living room to find that what had been a bag of chocolate was lying in shreds on the floor.

I called the vet and took him in and they're going to induce vomiting, and I can go get him in a couple hours.

So, any takers?

2. Hehe.
I find that, as long as you use a reasonable amount of discipline (and maybe professional training), the dog will grow out of the tendency.

If you want to see destructiveness, adopt a Labrador puppy! They chew, and chew, and chew. Once they get some years at their backs, though, they mellow out and become the best dogs ever. I adopted my Goldie from the animal shelter when she was seven years old, and she's about the most harmless and obedient doggy I could hope for. :)

3. oh, no!!
Is he going to be okay?
Can I laugh now?
I just remember when I got my border collie, she ate everything in sight. Shoes, bras, $400 futons, socks. Then she'd put everything in a pile as if to say "Mom, you won't be needing these any more. Can I have them?" She's an angel now.
Chin up!

4. The vet said he would be fine
:)

Our other dog is looking at me like "What did you DO? You took him to the vet and didn't bring him home! You did that to the cat too!!!"

7. One Springer is enough here, thank you
Just over a year old, and today she chewed on a new book (PostSecret, for those who are interested). She's a librarian's dog, she just can't go around eating books (she's already eaten two LIBRARY books: Alfie Kohn's Unconditional Parenting and a Spanish-language graphic novel that must be ordered from Europe to replace.

9. I do not want to see any offspring between Jerry Springer and a canine!
But the sentiment is appreciated, thanks anyway.

10. Your little guy needs to chew.
Buy him every variety of chew toy out there. Big bones, little bones, rawhide scraps. Litter the house with them. In a week, put all of his chew toys on his bed. If he goes for something that isn't his, tell him "That's not yours," and give him the chew toy from his bed. Keep doing this and in a week, you won't have any problems. :)

11. The house looks like the Corpus Christi dump
because of all the chew toys.

It's not for lack of other things to chew, he just can't stand being left alone for 5 minutes.

12. Our Maltese is 10 yrs old and he can't stand it either. Can you leave the
tv or radio on when you go out to keep him company? We play special pet tranquility music and it seems to work. Its very relaxing - we got the 4 cd set at a pet store for about $20.00 a few years ago. For my cats, I used to play a cat video for them -it was of other cats playing - it used to amuse them for hours.

13. I hear ya
We have this stupid golden that it would take the US Navy to entertain. It just means you have a really smart dog according to my vet. I really believe my dog would be happy doing quadratic equations during the day. Perhaps get him some of those puzzle games for dogs.

And this may sound really queer, but whenever I am gone for any length of time, I bring Boodah home a toy thanking him for being such a good dog. He doesn't destroy stuff anymore when I am gone because he is looking forward to his present. Good luck!

14. One word. CRATE
Saves sanity and protects pups when you can't be there to directly supervise.

15. Yep. When leaving him home, the crate is best...
Also a 30 minute brisk walk will use up all that energy.

16. No thanks, I have a cockatoo to shred and destroy stuff for me!
Gideon has taken apart more remote controls than I can remember, several phones, two keyboards, three lamps, and a very nice new futon. That's just off the top of my head...there was a car radio he removed the buttons from, and miscellaneous things like floppy disks and CDs and brooms and mops he's gotten at. For all your destruction needs, cockatoos are #1!
