Oh, yeah! Mini-Road-Trip Next Month -- ANGELS BASEBALL! (PHOTO)
Friday night the 14th we'll leave work and drive to Baltimore to see the Halos play the Orioles. We'll stay in the nicest inner harbor hotel we can afford (any Motel Sixes in the inner harbor?), then we'll see the Angels & O's match it up again late Saturday afternoon.

Can't wait!

And look what I get to wear -- my birthday present! :wow:

1. Cool jersey! Angels will win the West this year.
What do you thnk of the Angels using "Los Angeles" as their title city?
Which did you like? California Angels? Anaheim Angels or what they call it now?
Just curious.

2. I have always preferred the California Angels.
But I liked the Anaheim Angels okay. I know it was a part of Anaheim trying to get on the map as a tourism destination (as if Disneyland wasn't enough).

But I have two things to say about The Los Angeles Angels.

1. It is redundant. Strictly literally it means "the the angels angels."

2. As for "The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" -- it's legalistic -- Moreno kept "of Anaheim" tagged on there so he wouldn't lose in court -- and it is just plain stupid. My weak inner thesaurus fails me. It's just stupid.

I hope my Halos take the West. If they don't, I'd sure like to see the Rangers get a shot.

How do the Pads look, Mav?

4. Better than last year.
They signed Mike Cameron, Mike Piazza and Vinny Castilla. Jake Peavey is one the best pitchers in baseball. You might see him picking up a Cy Young or two before he quits. Trevor Hoffmann is still sharp. He's #2 alltime on the saves list. If Giles and Klesko stay healthy, they might even score some runs this year.

Padres - Angels World Series this year?

9. That would seriously be the greatest thing ever.
Although I dont see the Padres getting anywhere this year, even though they own the NL west.

12. Maybe the NL West will step it up this year.
twas pretty sad last year. Mav says the Friars look good....

And you know, I can't think of the Padres without thinking of Phil Nevin disrobing on the field in a fit of disgust . . . You just can't keep those spirited ex-Halos down. ;)

13. That was before they ruined the stadium with that Disney look.
I liked the old "Big A" a lot better.

17. No. But it is in the parking lot, serving as a sign of our times:
a great marquee to distract passersby on the 57.

But they still light up the Halo all night long when the Angels win! :woohoo:

22. Oh, man... the memories
Daddy Wags. Ken Aspromonte and his brother, Bob. Rocky "Half-Ear" Bridges. Eli "Buy a Vowel" Grba. Dean Chance, the Ego with an ERA. And Sweet Lou Johnson, who later went to the Dodgers and won a few ball games, and showed up Willie Davis in the '66 Series.

Buck Rodgers managed a minor league team in my hometown, and Jim Fregosi and I share a birthday. (Ray Fosse, too.)
