I don't remember growing older

When did they?

When did she get to be a beauty?

When did he get to be so tall?

Wasn't it yesterday when they
Were small?

Swiftly flow the days

Thank you for posting this. I might come up with something like this to send to my ex-husband, now dying from end-stage cancer. I have so many photographs of our younger days with the birth of our two children.

I appreciate all you do and say for so many of us on the DU.

In peace, and good night,

Radio_Lady in Portland, OR

Here's my son years ago, in pre-school, in Sudbury, Massachusetts. David is the little dude in the lower right corner. I wonder where all of these "seedlings" went?

I hope I can color correct this picture, but wanted to share it with you.

He's in the striped shirt, lower right.

Not smiling. But when he smiles, he looks like a combination of his biological Dad and me. Weird as it may seem, he also shares dark hair and dark eyes with his stepfather, my "current" and third husband, who has been in his life since he was two years old.

I lost her june of last year.

My heart breaks every morning to wake up and remember she's gone.

31. So, you made the wrought iron pieces in the lowest photo?
We have some of those in the master bathroom -- toothbrush and toothpaste holders. I love them! We bought them in Vancouver, BC, from a small company on Store Street. I think the fellow is gone now.

Did you make the other two pieces, too?

Very crafty.

In peace,

Radio_Lady

PS. Egypt is a beautiful place. Have you ever been there? We went to Israel a couple of times and Egypt one time -- in the 1980s. Cruised up the Nile River to Aswan -- where the dam is. Beautiful memories of swimming in the pool at the Holiday Inn with the three pyramids of Giza in the background.

We didn't get to Abu Simbel. It was too dusty to fly in.

54. Re: Library of Alexandria
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 05:53 PM by Radio_Lady
In its time, it was considered to be the most complete library of books and documents. The fire that destroyed it is thought to have been set by an arsonist. It was one of the most horrendous losses in the history of the world. All this information comes from my husband; as for me, I didn't know anything about it. Thanks for the elucidation!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Library_of_Alexandria

I think of the Internet as a way to access "a place where you can learn almost everything about almost everything" if you've a mind to! You access the "mass mind of a very large audience." I used to do radio call-in programs where I'd ask questions and callers would answer them, and a place where people met for town-hall type conversation. It wasn't all politics all the time and there were many liberal talk show hosts on in the 1970s and 1980s. I did Date-A-Mate programs (call in, give us your first name only and describe yourself, and leave your telephone number off the air. Screener would give out the number off the air if you asked for it) -- and 'Ellen's Sellin' Corner' every Friday afternoon (call in and describe your stuff for sale or stuff wanted). It was wildly successful in the Boston market! I also did celebrity interviews on WEEI and WMEX Boston and even earlier on WIOD Miami much like Larry King does now, since I took over his radio show when he was arrested on charges in 1971. Did you know I dated him when he was a DJ on radio, and I was doing a TV show in the 1950s? Then I met up with him again and volunteered to be a screener for his overnight Miami radio show. (FYI: Screener answers the phone before the call goes on the air.) I like to say, "I'm one of the women who dated Larry King but didn't marry him." It always stops the conversation! He inadvertently advanced my career and I'll always be grateful to him. I'd be very surprised if he remembered me at all.

http://www.mugshots.com/Celebrity/Larry+King.htm

I've also helped several suicidal people talk with psychiatrists, and I'm responsible for at least a couple of marriages that I know of.

Regarding your comment comparing it with the Internet, I doubt whether the Library of Alexandria had a big section on pornography. It is still hard to believe that something like 98% of the activity on the Internet appears to involve sex! Sorry it came WAY too late to be of use to me!!! I used 'Playgirl' magazine for my fantasies when I was young -- or actual boys, which was even better! Now the boys in that type of magazine -- all look like my sons or even young friends of my sons. (Jeeze, I'll have to start saying "grandsons" soon.)

Speaking of grandsons, here's my little five-year-old "whirlwind" with dark hair and dark eyes, like his mother and me -- he's still playing with toy cars.
