Bunny Rescue info, if you're interested or can help:
just posting this as an FYI, please re-post or distribute as you see fit:

The Great Bunny Rescue of 2006 is now a race against time.

LAST WEEK, WE EVACUATED 1,000 RABBITS from a backyard in Reno, Nevada, where
they’ve been living in desperate circumstances, and where babies are still
being born at the rate of 50 every day. (Most of the new litters are born
underground in warrens that the rabbits have dug. So we have to wait for them
to surface before we can rescue them.)

We’ve leased a 65-acre ranch nearby, which will serve as the Best Friends
Rabbit Rescue Center for the next few months.

We’ve set up a surgical facility, with the essential medical supplies, to
provide triage care and to handle spaying and neutering, which is now going
into high gear.

And once the bunnies are stable, we’ll be embarking on the biggest rabbit
adoption program anywhere ever.

Over the weekend, the story appeared in newspapers all over the country.

AND NOW YOUR HELP IS URGENTLY NEEDED

AS A VOLUNTEER. If you live nearby, or are able to travel to Reno, we need
veterinarians, vet techs, caregivers, fence-builders, equipment handlers,
cooks, assistants, and others to continue moving this effort forward.
* Please go to http://network.bestfriends.org and click on the “Volunteer”
button OR call us at 435-644-3965 ext. 4723.

AS A DONOR. $50 will provide special care for a bunny needing medical
attention. $100 will provide medical care and subsidize a bunny spay/neuter.
$500 will take care of a group of 10 rabbits, get them fixed and place them in
a new home anywhere in the country.
* Just go to http://network.bestfriends.org and click on the “We Need Bunny
Money” icon, or call us at 435-644-3965 ext. 4723

BY ADOPTING A RABBIT – OR 10! Some are feral bunnies, looking for spacious,
protected back yards to live in. Adopt a group up to 10, and we’ll be happy to
guide you through the process of setting up your backyard to be a happy bunny
habitat for them. Baby rabbits being born right now can be adopted as house
rabbits as soon as they’re old enough to be spayed or neutered.
* Go to http://network.bestfriends.org and click on the “Adopt” tab, or call
us at 435-644-3965 ext. 4723.

JOIN THE BEST FRIENDS NETWORK: You’ll get daily updates, and you can network
with other people who care about animals at http://network.bestfriends.org

There’s also daily news on the main Best Friends web site at
http://www.bestfriends.org.

Thank you, as always, for your support. Between us all, let’s see if we can
really pull a rabbit out of the hat on this one!

1. I had a pet bunny when I was a kid.
He was a little white ball of fluff. :) Loved to follow us all over the house. We had to put a bell around his neck so we'd be sure to know when he was around!

I'd love to adopt one, but unfortunately, I now have two dogs who enjoy playing with fluffy things. Probably not a good idea.

2. I would love to have a bunny haven in my backyard!
But I guess I'll have to live with donating. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. :hi:
