1. Third try.
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 04:46 AM by Heidi
The people who like me (and that's not everyone) do so because I try to treat others with love, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity.

(Edited because I'm :arealdork:)

wouldn't those be considered Christian virtues as well. Perhaps not by descendents of Puritans. I just read about blue laws in early Connecticut, which some of my ancestors helped to found. They followed those Biblical laws, like the death penalty for adultery or being an unruly kid. :scared: Maybe Fransiscans would be better examples.

me to believe that anyone died for my sins or renounce any other belief system in order to be a practicing Buddhist. In fact, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet advises people _not_ to convert to Buddhism, but to take the parts of it that enrich them and make them better people and use those parts to make them better Christians, Jews, Muslims or whatever. It's sort of a "big tent" philosophy. :)

66. I would say, neither does Christianity, properly understood
but I am not sure how St. Francis felt about that.
The belief that someone died for the sins of everyone is essential for many who are unable to forgive themselves or others it was not a key to what Jesus taught in the golden rule, the two commandments, Matthew 25: 31, and so on. I wish John 15: 12 ("My command is this. Love one another as I have loved you") was as well known as the unfortunate John 3: 16.

I was raised Baptist, and later was confirmed as an Episcopalian. I think the Nicene Creed, which we recited every Sunday in the Episcopal church I attended, is pretty clear on what we were to believe as confirmed Episcopalians.

I have yet to encounter any form of Christianity that does not tell people that they have to renounce all other belief systems. "Put no other Gods before me" etc, etc.

75. unfortunately those come from Paul and Martin Luther
(although the Nicene Creed predates Luther of course). I am just saying that if you go back to the founder, he certainly never taught the Nicene creed or the Apostles Creed, which I probably still know by heart. I find both of those to be empty, much like reciting something like "I believe that Pierre is the capitol of South Dakota, and that the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776 and written by Thomas Jefferson..." Even if true, how much does it change the way the believer lives?
It is quite possible to be a Christian and still believe that the churches have gone astray in many ways. In the same way that Jesus, although he was a devout Jew, believed that Judaism had gone astray.

16. will good qualities make me popular or well liked?
My favorite palindrome suggests the opposite - "deliver no evil, live on reviled"

That's why people do not like me. I will honestly say what I think instead of being agreeable. I am trying to follow the golden rule though, as I would prefer people be honest with me, although not to the point that they feel the need to inform me about all my qualities they dislike. Hopefully, I disagree without malice or any other kind of lice.

And I have offended plenty of uptight pricks in my life. But hey, fuck 'em if they can't take a joke!

I posted about it awhile ago, but a few innocent joking comments to my supervisor caused her to go apeshit and tell the boss. That snowballed into a slew of meetings with the boss until she got fired for different reasons.

Unfortunately, I wasn't there the day she was let go, but she had a stick so far up her butt that she must have struck oil.

My nature is introvert but I have that performance-type thing in which a switch can be flicked and I'm Captain Fantastic when I get on a stage, behind a podium, or anywhere people are gathered and I've got a job to do as part of that group's focus...

...except for the gay part, I mean.

Lots of performers are like that in the dichotomy between onstage and offstage. Lots of us in other walks of life, too.

I've become good with people over the past 15 years -- even though big groups and crowds will probably never feel right to me -- and the people who take my innate asocial tendencies as arrogance...well, I know I'm better than them and I don't deign to engage them. :D

76. We've been friends by cyber space for a long time.
We didn't have too many miscommunication to work out. ;) Building a relationship when you're thousands of miles apart can be tricky but well worth the effort. I think it may be more like 14 months :P but who's counting.

64. Also, you're Petey's mama.
I'm relatively certain that being Ginger's mama is about 100 points on the likeability scale.

How ya doin', gf? Gettin' ready to start that loathesome commute? :loveya:

82. As I pointed out in the "people skills" thread, I never tell the
useless bastards how much I fucking hate them. I mind my language, too.

That's pretty respectful, isn't it?

89. A gal after my own heart...
You and me can sit over here together. I was just thinking the same thing. Damned if I know.

But I know why I like you; you were the first person to welcome me when I finally got up the noive to post.

That makes you a generous, welcoming soul and I haven't seen anything since that would make me think otherwise.

Ya know, with "You Know Who." :hi:

It couldn't be my witty rapartee, my subtle innuendo, or a willingness to snark at the drop of a hat, would it? :)
