Book Deal for Stephen Colbert, Man Who Coined "Truthiness"
"This book will have the same noble goal as my television show: to change the world one factual error at a time," Colbert said Tuesday in a statement issued by Warner Books. Colbert's book, currently untitled, is scheduled to come out in the fall of 2007.

6. Agreed
I always tune in for the Word and then maybe stick around depending on who that night's guest is.

Did anyone see the episode with Al Franken. It was really great!

8. The Word is the part that I love most...
It's one of those rare times when you have to keep your eyes on the screen while something is aired. The playfulness between what's on the screen and what's being said is priceless.

I will admit, however, that I did not have high hopes for this show in the first couple of airings. Colbert stumbled on his punchlines and it seemed forced. But now he has relaxed into the character he's doing and it's hilarious more times than not. I also think his interviews can be wonderful. He even managed to have fun with Connie Chung. When he brings on dry, scholarly types, he turns them into accessible folks, too.

9. I seem to have ruffled a few feathers
But I stand by what I said. He's too narcissistic and arrogant, many of his "jokes" are too contrived and I've seem them fall flat quite a few times (and then he swivels his chair quickly, hoping the audience will forget). I admit that the 'Word' segment is ok, but the rest of the show is sub-par. Really he was better off when he had just those few minutes on Jon Stewart's show. Of course Jon is WAY WAY better than this guy.

To OP: this is not directed at you, sorry

12. I'm curious
You do know that the narcisstic and arrogant aspect is an act right? Like the whole thing is a riff on O'Liely?

I think it's hilarious. Every cocky thing he says or does is an indictment of Fox News.

17. "He's too narcissistic and arrogant..."
That's what makes the show so funny. It is one gigantic parody of narcisstic, arrogant talking heads on news tv these days. Watch him with that in mind....he's hilarious. I didn't care for his show at first, until I got what it was he was lampooning.

18. lol. You're not an "it-getter," I take it.
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 06:06 PM by jane_pippin
I'm sorry you don't like it, and I certainly respect your right not to like it, but since you like the Daily Show I think you should give Colbert one more chance keeping in mind that his character on the show is supposed to be a narcissistic, arrogant, contrived joke-tellin, swivelin around, Bill O'Reiley impersonatin' egomainac. If you're so inclined, there's a great interview with him out of character from a few months back on Fresh Air w/ Terry Gross on the NPR website that might give you some more information about him and what his show's up to.

(And I don't mean to offend with the "it-getter" remark. It's a Colbert-ism I just couldn't resist using here.)

edit: my speling wasn't an "it-getter" either.
